Yahoo DFS Baseball: Monday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

PITCHER

John Lackey, CHC vs. MIL ($45): Among the higher-priced pitchers, Lackey makes the most sense in this matchup as he's the biggest favorite of the day. He already has 17 Ks in 12.0 IP and gets a Brewers team that has been one of the worst against righties early in the season (.309 wOBA, 25.8 percent K-rate).

Jaime Garcia, ATL vs. SD ($28): Garcia hasn't been great in his first two outings and that's why he comes at a cheaper price. With the Braves a decent favorite and the Padres a below average .315 wOBA against lefties this season to go with a 25.3 percent K-rate, though, this is a nice spot to back a cheaper pitcher.

CATCHER

Stephen Vogt, OAK vs. TEX ($14): Maybe it's not great strategy to spend more on catchers, but it's only a couple extra bucks and Vogt isn't too expensive. After resting yesterday, he has a good matchup against A.J. Griffin, who has had major issues against lefties over the past year. Last season, he allowed a .406 wOBA to LHB and has not found an answer to them this season, allowing four ER in only 16 lefties faced. As for Vogt, he had a .319 wOBA against righties last season to go with a small 14.3 percent K-rate.

FIRST BASE

Hanley Ramirez, BOS vs. TB ($20): Ramirez said his hamstring cramp isn't going to be an issue and that he'll play today. I'll take his word for it in a plus matchup. Ramirez was unstoppable at Fenway last season, especially against lefties, with a ridiculously high .541 wOBA. Blake Snell doesn't have much experience, but is still a bit worse against righties (.320 wOBA) than lefties (.292 wOBA) in his career.

SECOND BASE

Logan Forsythe, LAD vs. ARI ($14): Here's another guy battling some hamstring tightness, but like Ramirez, is expected to be full-go Monday. Robbie Ray has been solid in the early season, but his .343 wOBA allowed against righties last season isn't exactly ancient history. Even better is Forsythe's .330 wOBA from last season and his 9-of-24 line against righties this year.

THIRD BASE

Jake Lamb, ARI at LAD ($20): Brandon McCarthy was solid in his first two starts, but it doesn't become a trend until he does it a third time. The recent numbers from 2016 still show that he struggles against lefties (.321 wOBA allowed) and that's where Lamb steps in. Throughout his career, he has been far better against righties with a .352 wOBA, and last year Lamb pushed that up to .374.

SHORTSTOP

Brad Miller, TB at BOS ($16): This play makes sense for a few reasons. Miller is fairly cheap, he faces a righty, and that righty is struggling mightily. Steven Wright was lit up for eight runs in his last start and his career K-rate against lefties (18.7 percent) is low enough for that not to be a worry for Miller, who has struck out 14 times in 30 at-bats against righties so far. Obviously, that's not a great number, but Miller broke out of that slump in this series with a homer and a couple of triples. His .342 wOBA against righties last season is still waiting to make an appearance.

OUTFIELD

Mookie Betts, BOS vs. TB ($18): Betts has been better against righties in his career, but it's hard to pass him up for a reasonable price in a plus matchup. Snell is still an unknown, while Betts had a .384 wOBA and .387 ISO in 62 at-bats at home against lefties last season.

Nick Markakis, ATL vs. SD ($17): While his numbers don't pop off the page, Markakis has been consistent, with at least one hit in every game so far but the opener. His .341 wOBA against righties last season is another good starting point, but Jered Weaver's struggles on the mount can't be forgotten. Weaver has already given up four home runs in 11.0 IP and only has seven Ks. Markakis may not supply power anymore, but the hits will be there at a minimum.

Michael Brantley, CLE at MIN ($15): It's almost a must to roster at least one batter against Kyle Gibson when he's pitching. A truly great outing has been rare for the right-hander throughout his career and that's how 2017 is going for him with 9.0 IP, eight ER and three HR. Brantley is feeling good about himself with five hits in the last three games and now he gets Gibson, who he's 4-of-11 against in his career. After playing only 11 games last season, Brantley's career numbers seem more relevant here, including a stout .347 wOBA against righties.
