FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Luis Severino, NYY vs. TOR ($8,500):Clayton Kershaw is obviously the top option on the slate, and he has a nice matchup against the Giants, but if you are looking for a less expensive option, then Severino is your guy. It remains to be seen if Severino has really taken his game to the next level, but through four starts, he looks like an All-Star. Severino enters with a 3.00 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 27 innings. He gets a crack at the Blue Jays, who simply aren't the same team this season. Toronto is bottom-5 in wOBA against righties this season and bottom-10 in K% against righties.

CATCHER

Alex Avila, DET vs. CHW ($2,600): Avila is a hit-or-miss player, but he's shown the ability to score without the benefit of the long ball over his past few games. Avila continues to hit righties well and has a couple homers against Trevor Bauer in his career. He's definitely worth a look at this price.

FIRST BASE

Freddie Freeman, ATL vs. NYM ($3,200):Eric Thames has received the bulk of the attention this year, but Freddie Freeman is producing at just as high a level as Thames and is on fire right now. Freeman is averaging 17.2 fantasy points per games this season, but he's averaged 23.25 points per game over his past four. Freeman is second in the league in wOBA against righties this season at .507, trailing only Ryan Zimmerman, so his matchup against Robert Gsellman looks good.

SECOND BASE

Jose Altuve, HOU vs. TEX ($4,000):Andrew Cashner takes the hill in Houston, which makes the Astros one of the better stack options on this slate. Cashner has always struggled on the road and this year has been no exception. Though he's managed to keep his ERA in check, he's still allowing baserunners at a high rate. Sooner or later, it's going to catch up with Cashner, and this might be the spot where he blows up. Jose Altuve is probably the most consistent of the Astro hitters and is coming off a couple of strong games on the weekend, and although the Astros aren't an easy team to stack because of their prohibitive salaries, Altuve is one guy worth making room for.

SHORTSTOP

Didi Gregorius, NYY vs. TOR ($3,100): Gregorius has wasted no time in getting acclimated to a big league lineup again. Through three games this season, Gregorius is averaging 15.8 fantasy points per game and that's without the benefit of a single home run. He's earning points by knocking in runs and getting on base. His matchup against Marco Estrada isn't a great one, but he has had some success in the past against Estrada and at this price, he's worth a shot.

THIRD BASE

Yulieski Gurriel, HOU vs. TEX ($2,600): While the Astros as a whole come at a high price, you can still get Gurriel for a bargain. Gurriel has been a pleasant surprise for the Astros this season as he's provided some consistency where it's normally been absent. Gurriel is averaging 8.2 fantasy points per game through 22 games and has the top wOBA against righties on the Astros. Gurriel's low salary should make it easier to fit more Astros into your lineup against Cashner.

OUTFIELD

Dexter Fowler, STL vs. MIL ($3,300): Fowler got off to a poor start with his new team, but over the past 10 games, he's really turned it around. During that span, Fowler has averaged 16.5 fantasy points per game. He has been much more productive from the left side of the plate, which is where he'll hit against righty Zach Davies. Davies is coming off a good start against the Reds, but it was his first quality start in five tries. Unless he figured it all out in his most recent outing, he's still vulnerable.

Matt Kemp, ATL vs. NYM ($3,900): Kemp struggled in the first few games on the DL, but he's since found his stroke in a big way. Kemp has four home runs and six RBI in his past six games, most of which came against right-handed pitching. Kemp ranks ninth in the league in wOBA against righties this season at .462. and gets righty Robert Gsellman, which is a great matchup for him.

Corey Dickerson, TB at MIA ($3,100): It's not often that I seek out a lefty/lefty matchup, but the way Dickerson has hit lefties this season, I'll make an exception. Dickerson 's wOBA against lefties this year is .565, which is 14th in all of baseball. Dickerson has been a consistent force in the Rays' lineup this season, averaging 11.1 fantasy points per game. He gets a matchup with Wei-Yin Chen, who's not particularly tough on lefties. Last season, opposing lefties actually posted a higher wOBA against Chen than righties.
