Yahoo DFS Baseball: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Pitcher:

Charlie Morton. HOU vs ATL ($34): Morton has been one of the surprises of the season, as he's averaging nearly 20 fantasy points per game. He's been especially dominant recently, combining for 64.4 fantasy points and 20 strikeouts across his last two. That's the production of a $50 player and he should be able to duplicate those numbers against the struggling Braves. In fact, Atlanta has lost five of six, scoring just eight combined runs across its last three games.

Zack Wheeler, NYM vs. SF ($31): Wheeler had a nightmare start in his opener, but he's been very good since. Over his last four games, Wheeler is averaging 17.7 fantasy points per game despite facing the Nationals in his last two. That's the best offense in the majors and Wheeler gets the benefit of facing a Giants offense here that ranks bottom-three in scoring, on-base percentage, home runs and slugging percentage. It's been even worse recently, with San Francisco failing to surpass five runs in 21 straight games and combining for just five total runs over its last three.

Catcher:

Brian McCann, HOU vs. ATL ($15): McCann is traditionally a hitter that sits on fastballs and changeups and there's no better match for him than someone like Bartolo Colon. Not only has Colon posted an ugly ERA of 6.27 this season, he's thrown either a fastball or changeup on 96 percent of his pitches. That's a great sign for McCann, who has hit those two pitches better than any others in his career.

First Base:

Carlos Santana, CLE at TOR ($15): Santana is starting to get hot, as he's accumulated 34.5 fantasy points across his last three games while reaching double digits in each. That success should continue here, as he gets to bat on his favorable left side against a weak right-hander. That righty is Mike Bolsinger, who has allowed opposing lefties to post a .385 OBP and .849 OPS against him throughout his career. That's just more beneficial for an on-base machine like Santana, as he'll likely be in his typical lead-off spot at the top of the order.

Second Base:

Jose Altuve, HOU vs. ATL ($20): Altuve is one of the best fastball hitters in the league, as he's posted a career 68.1 pitch value against it throughout his career. As discussed before, that's what the struggling Colon throws more than any other pitch and it should allow Altuve to make contact in nearly every at-bat. Altuve comes into this game with huge upside too, scoring at least 15.9 fantasy points in four of his last nine.

Third Base:

Miguel Sano, MIN at CWS ($26): With Mike Pelfrey taking the mound, it's crucial to get at least one stud Twin into your lineup. The numbers pop off the page for Pelfrey, as he's allowing a .377 OBP and .825 OPS to opposing hitters over the past three seasons. Sano has been on fire too, averaging 11.9 fantasy points per game across his last 10.

Shortstop:

Trea Turner, WSH at BAL ($26): Turner got the day off Monday because of a minor slump, but a date with Ubaldo Jimenez should help. Not only has Jimenez posted a 6.58 ERA and 1.69 WHIP this season, he's allowed six stolen bases, which is tied for the most in the league. That just adds to the intrigue of a great hitter like Turner, as he has the capability to steal multiple bags in this sort of matchup. The ballpark is fantastic as well, as that left field porch in Baltimore benefits right-handed batters.

Outfielders:

Adam Duvall, CIN vs. NYY ($20): Duvall has turned into one of the best home run hitters in the league and he has a great matchup against a struggling CC Sabathia. Dating back to last season, Duvall has 42 home runs, which is one of the best marks in baseball. The icing on the cake is how much he's destroying lefties, as he has a .435 OBP and 1.435 OPS against southpaws this season. That's where Sabathia is really struggling too, allowing an .835 OPS against right-handed batters this season.

George Springer, HOU vs. ATL ($16): Springer is the final piece of our Astros stack, and what makes him a nice choice is his value, as he's the same price as players like Nick Markakis, Aaron Altherr and Domingo Santana. Springer is by far the superior player of all those guys and it's a wonder why he's so cheap in such a great matchup.

Mark Trumbo, BAL vs. WSH ($8):Max Scherzer is usually a guy worth fading, but Trumbo is a sneaky pick at this sort of price. The reason for that is that Scherzer's weakness is Trumbo's strength. Not only does Trumbo lead the majors in home runs over the past two seasons, Scherzer is allowing a ton of home runs despite his dominance. In fact, Scherzer has allowed 58 home runs over the past two seasons, which is the second worst mark in the league behind James Shields. It's his cost that really makes Trumbo worth the risk, as he's just $1 north of the minimum price with solid home-run potential.
