DraftKings MLB: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Matt Andriese, TB at BOS ($7,300): Andriese's changeup is already more valuable than it was over 127.2 innings last season, coming in at 4.0 runs above average. This should put him in position to succeed against the Red Sox, who hold the fourth-lowest RAA against the changeup this season. Andriese has been a bit homer prone at times, but Boston rates as a bottom-10 team in the league against righties according to ISO.

Jose Quintana, CWS vs. SD ($10,200): The Padres' .262 wOBA against lefties this season is the third-worst mark in the league. They have also struck out 22 percent of the time, while logging just a .114 ISO. Quintana hasn't quite been his dominant self in 2017, but his 22 percent strikeout rate represents a career high.

CATCHER

Yan Gomes, CLE vs. MIN ($3,100): After a slow start to the season, Gomes has begun to mash lefties again. The 29-year-old has notched a .318 ISO against his opposite hand while securing a hard contact rate of 43 percent. Meanwhile, Hector Santiago has notched a 4.88 xFIP against right-handed hitters while surrendering a 33 percent hard contact rate.

FIRST BASE

Jay Bruce, NYM at MIL ($4,800):Wily Peralta has returned to his post as a stack target after showing a bit of promise to start the season, having allowed a .582 slugging percentage to left-handed hitters over 13.1 innings. Bruce has overwhelmed right-handed pitchers, as evidenced by his .361 ISO over 97 at-bats.

SECOND BASE

Starlin Castro, NYY vs. HOU ($4,200):Mike Fiers has kept a tremendous reverse split in 2017, having allowed an .870 slugging percentage to righties over 13 innings. Castro has hit the ball well against both sides of the platoon, but he has really shown his power against righties with a .206 ISO.

THIRD BASE

Todd Frazier, CWS vs. SD ($4,200): Frazier hasn't shown the power to compensate for his low batting average, but it is imperative that we find all the righties we can against Jered Weaver, who has allowed an enormous 5.2 HR/9 rate over 17.1 innings. Weaver is currently sporting the highest ground-ball rate of his career (41.3 percent), while Frazier hits the ball in the air at a 48 percent clip.

SHORTSTOP

Francisco Lindor, CLE vs. MIN ($4,700): We have hit a milestone in this article series, as Lindor represents the first time I have recommended two hitters on the same team this season. Lindor doesn't pack quite the wallop that Gomes does against lefties, but he has notched a 2.7 RAA against the changeup, a pitch Santiago throws more than 24 percent of the time.

OUTFIELD

Adam Jones, BAL at KC ($3,800): It's surprising to me that Chris Young is getting another shot in the Kansas City rotation, as he threw more than a few 87 mph fastballs down the middle in his first start of the season last week against the Rays. Young finished 2016 with a 6.19 ERA across 88.2 innings, while Jones has logged a 3.0 RAA against the slider, a pitch Young has favored even more than his fastball over the last 102.1 innings.

Max Kepler, MIN at CLE ($4,100): Kepler isn't regarded as a key bat in the Twins' lineup, but he is boasting a .369 wOBA and 40 percent hard contact rate against righties this year. The wheels have fallen off for Trevor Bauer against lefties, as he has allowed a .632 slugging percentage over 15.0 innings.

Matt Kemp, ATL at MIA ($4,200):Justin Nicolino has struggled in the minor leagues this season, notching a 4.46 ERA over 38.1 innings at Triple-A New Orleans, while striking out just 24 batters over that span. Kemp should have an opportunity to feast on mediocre pitching, as he logged a .306 ISO against southpaws in 2016.
