Yahoo DFS Baseball: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Pitcher

Michael Pineda, NYY at KC ($46): The matchup against the Royals feels tailor-made for big fantasy points, as they hold the third lowest RAA in the league against the slider, a pitch Pineda throws 38 percent of the time. The 28-year-old has been keeping batters off balance in 2017, as evidenced by his 13.6 percent swinging strike rate.

Matt Shoemaker, LAA vs. CWS ($38): It's always a good idea to try to take advantage of the White Sox on the road, where they hold a .281 wOBA and a 6.0 percent walk rate. Shoemaker's swinging strike rate has come down a bit from 2106, but still hovers around 11 percent, while the South Siders strike out 23 percent of the time against right-handed pitching.

Catcher

Francisco Cervelli, PIT vs. WAS ($13): Jacob Turner has performed well after notching an ERA over 6.00 in 137.2 innings over his past two years in the major leagues, but unlike Zack Godley, there has been no major repertoire change or velocity spike to help inspire confidence that run prevention is here to stay. Meanwhile, Cervelli has maintained a reverse split this season, notching a .213 ISO against righties.

First Base

Matt Carpenter, STL vs. BOS ($23): Rick Porcello has pitched well away from home this year, but has still kept a 45 percent hard contact rate against lefties. Porcello's fastball comes in at a -1.5 RAA, which could be bad news when facing Carpenter, who has notched a 9.2 RAA against the pitch.

Second Base

Jed Lowrie, OAK at SEA ($14): Christian Bergman spent the first three years of his major-league career being lit up in Colorado. While he has thrown the ball better so far this season, he has still allowed a 40 percent hard contact rate to the 12 left-handed batters he has faced. Lowrie has managed a .353 wOBA against his opposite hand, while notching a 40 percent hard contact rate of his own.

Third Base

Ryan Schimpf, SD vs. MIL ($12): Matt Garza has allowed a slugging percentage of .600 to left-handed batters over 10.1 innings this season, while Schimpf has registered a .244 ISO against right-handed pitchers. This, along with his 64 percent flyball rate, should pay dividends against Garza, who has put the ball on the ground at a rate of more than 46 percent.

Shortstop

Freddy Galvis, PHI at TEX ($16): Andrew Cashner has posted a 6.18 xFIP against lefties this season, which is a fairly solid indication that his 2.43 ERA won't be here for long. Galvis has tallied a .191 ISO against righties, while striking out at just a 15 percent clip over 94 at-bats.

Outfield

Bryce Harper, WAS at PIT ($27): Harper would make a fine play against any right-handed pitcher, but he has an especially nice draw in Pittsburgh. He will take his league best 19.6 RAA against the fastball into a matchup with Gerrit Cole, whose heater has registered a -2.0 RAA. It is also worth noting that Cole has permitted a 42 percent hard contact rate to lefties this year.

Justin Upton, DET vs. BAL ($22): Ubaldo Jimenez's strikeout rate drops to 12 percent against right-handed hitters this season with a walk rate to match. Jimenez has notched just a 6.0 percent swinging strike rate, while Upton has tallied a .286 ISO against righty pitchers.

Domingo Santana, MIL at SD ($15): Santana is really coming into his own against right-handed pitchers, notching a .189 ISO and a .372 wOBA over 90 at-bats. Jhoulys Chacin has kept a .561 slugging percentage against lefties, and features a fastball that has registered a -5.0 RAA this season.
