FantasyDraft MLB: Sunday Values

This article is part of our FantasyDraft MLB series.

PITCHER

Michael Pineda, NYY vs. OAK ($19,200): Whenever Clayton Kershaw is on the board and he's not in this article, I feel the need to explain. In this case it's pretty simple: his price is extremely high and he's facing a team that can actually get to him. As for Pineda, he's been pretty solid this season, posting at least six strikeouts in all but one of his eight starts, and he now gets an Oakland team that is middle of the pack in wOBA against righties this season but has the fourth-highest K%.

Joe Ross, WAS vs. SD ($15,200): Ross is a bit of a risk because he's had only one good outing in four starts, but that good outing was his most recent and you couldn't ask for a better matchup. Stephen Strasburg and Max Scherzer have completely shut down the Padres in this series and while Ross is nowhere near that level, he's good enough to get through the lineup without much damage.

INFIELD

Trea Turner, WAS vs. SD ($9,600):Jhoulys Chacin takes the mound for the Padres, and it goes without saying that if you can find enough salary cap space, draft as many Nationals as you can. The problem, of course, is that most of them are quite expensive. Turner is no exception, but he's on a roll right now and should be worth the price against Chacin, who has been terrible on the road this year.

Christian Vazquez, BOS vs. SEA ($5,700): Vazquez is a cheap option who provides high upside against Seattle starter Christian Bergman, who allowed 10 runs on 14 hits in his most recent start. Facing the Red Sox in Boston provides another opportunity to get obliterated, and while we can't count on an effort like that again, we can expect more than a few runs. Meanwhile, Vazquez has seven hits in his past three starts.

Zack Cozart, CIN vs. PHI ($8,000): Cozart, fresh off a 4-for-4 outing Saturday, has hit safely in 18 of his past 19 games and gets a great matchup against Zach Eflin, who has surrendered 15 runs on 21 hits in his past two starts. If he hasn't figured out what went wrong in his past two starts, he's in for another short outing.

OUTFIELD

Corey Dickerson, TB at MIN ($9,000):Corey Dickerson was the hottest hitter in the league a week ago, and while he's slowed a bit, he is in line for a nice game against Kyle Gibson, who has an 8.62 ERA this season. Meanwhile, Dickerson leads the Rays with a .415 wOBA against right-handed pitching this season.

Steven Souza, TB at MIN ($8,100): As you've probably figured out by now, Tampa looks like a good stack against the struggling Kyle Gibson. While the Rays aren't the most reliable stack in the majors, the benefit is that they come cheap. Souza is starting to heat up, hitting three home runs in his past four games, and his wOBA against righties this season is second-best on the team, so he's option 1A behind Dickerson.

Bryce Harper, WAS vs. SD ($10,800): You could take Harper every day and I'd never question it, but sometimes he has more value than others. Sunday is one of those cases, as the matchup with Chacin is too good to pass up. Harper is the best hitter in the Nationals' lineup and, as you might expect, he's the best against righties, as his .470 wOBA against them is fourth-best in the majors.

UTLIITY

Salvador Perez, KC at CLE ($6,800): Perez has been one of the better hitters on the Royals this season, which isn't saying a whole lot, but he is averaging 7.63 fantasy points per game, which, when considering his salary, is actually one of the better ratios in the league. He'll face a struggling Josh Tomlin, who he's fared well against in his career with 17 hits, including nine for extra base, in 31 at-bats.

Gerardo Parra, COL vs. STL ($8,000): I generally don't recommend drafting players based solely on head-to-head numbers, but in this case, I think an exception is warranted. Parra has faced Lance Lynn 24 times and has 11 hits, including an impressive nine for extra bases. There's something to be said for hitters seeing certain pitchers better than others, and Parra obviously sees the ball well out of Lynn's hand.
