FantasyDraft MLB: Thursday Values

This article is part of our FantasyDraft MLB series.

PITCHER

Zack Greinke, ARI at MIA ($24,600):Marco Estrada ($18,600) is probably the only other pitcher Thursday who can put in a performance like Greinke, and he's going against the Yankees, so it's Greinke or bust. Greinke had some trouble against the Brewers last start, but he still managed six strikeouts in 5.1 innings, keeping his K% up at 29.6. The Marlins are fine against righties with a .311 wOBA and 20.1 K%, but Greinke has carved most lineups as long as they aren't one of the best.

Eduardo Rodriguez, BOS at BAL ($17,200): With the limited pitching options, Rodriguez should be one of the safer plays. He's gone at least six innings in his last seven starts and hasn't given up more than three runs since his first outing of the season. The Orioles are mediocre against lefties with a .316 wOBA and strike out a ton with a 24.5 K%.

INFIELD

Joe Mauer, MIN at LAA ($8,000): After getting a day off, Mauer should be ready to face righty Alex Meyer. Most of Mauer's damage comes against righties, as seen in his .365 wOBA, and while Meyer has a decent K% (24.5) that shouldn't matter against Mauer with his 11.8 K%. Along with that, Meyer is allowing a .383 wOBA, has a 6.18 xFIP and is coming off the 10-day DL.

Deven Marrero, BOS at BAL ($6,300): Marrero hasn't been a full-time answer for Dustin Pedroia's absence, but he should be in the lineup against a lefty with his .632 wOBA in 13 at-bats. That's not much to use, but that may not matter against Wade Miley, who has 13 strikeouts in his last five starts. Striking out has been Marrero's main flaw so far (32.8 K%).

Chris Iannetta, ARI at MIA ($5,600): For another cheap play, Iannetta is an easy place to look with his .479 wOBA and 9.7 K% against lefties. Jeff Locke is making his first start of the season, so there's no guarantee as to how he'll pitch, but he allowed a .372 wOBA and 5.04 xFIP against righties last season, so Iannetta isn't a bad place to start.

OUTFIELD

Robbie Grossman, MIN at LAA ($7,600): I'll return to the Twins for the outfield, with Grossman having a nice .384 wOBA and 14.7 K% against righties this season. He's was better all around last month, posting a .407 wOBA and .271 ISO. Coming off the DL, Meyer is unreliable, having made it more than 5.1 innings once in his five starts, while walking 18 in the process.

Brett Gardner, NYY at TOR ($8,400): There's no denying Estrada is cruising with only two earned runs and 20 strikeouts in his last two starts, but I'm willing to back Gardner with how he's hitting. To go with a season .390 wOBA and .261 ISO against righties, he was even better in May at .427 and .338, respectively. As more of a selling point, Gardner had one of the seven hits the Yankees had against Estrada in their first meeting on May 1.

Mookie Betts, BOS at BAL ($10,100): I'm throwing a bit more money on Betts, but it should be worth it against Miley. Most of Miley's struggles have come against righties (.338 wOBA, 4.25 xFIP) and with him not striking anyone out, that's a bad recipe against Betts. Betts is having success against both handedness of pitchers, with his .273 ISO against lefties being the selling point. In 18 at-bats last month he has a .459 wOBA and .444 ISO against lefties.

UTILITY

Nick Ahmed, ARI at MIA ($6,400): Here's another cheaper righty going against Locke in his first start of the season. Most of Ahmed's success this year has come against lefties, posting a .424 wOBA, and that's been helped by a great May in which he has hit safely in 15 of his 20 appearances.

Albert Pujols, LAA vs. MIN ($8,100): If you have the money for this final spot, taking a chance on Pujols could prove useful. After a slow start, he came around in May with a .386 wOBA and .294 ISO. Boosting his matchup is that Adalberto Mejia has a 5.47 xFIP against righties. In his five starts, Mejia has made it more than five innings just once.
