Pitchers
Stephen Strasburg, WAS at OAK ($12,000): No team has struck out more against right-handers since May 15 than the A's, which have fanned at a robust 29.2 percent clip versus that handedness over that span. That's good news for Strasburg, who's racked up 35.7 and 47.4 fantasy points, respectively, over his last two starts while notching 26 whiffs over just 14.2 innings in that stretch. Strasburg has also been even better on the road, averaging 24.4 fantasy points in five starts away from Nationals Park and posting a .202 BAA in 33.1 road innings.
German Marquez, COL at SD ($7,200): Marquez makes for a strong GPP value play, considering his matchup against a Padres offense that's mustered a .289 wOBA and struck out at a 22.5 percent clip versus righties at Petco Park. Marquez's solid strikeout upside has resulted in two games of more than 20 fantasy points and one over 30 after a rough first start of the season. He's also been notably more effective on the road, generating a 1.06 ERA and allowing a .281 wOBA over 17.0 frames outside of Coors Field.
Batters
Catcher:
J.T. Realmuto, MIA vs. ARI ($3,600): D-Backs southpaw Patrick Corbin has given up a .383 wOBA to right-handed hitters, including a whopping .480 on the road. He's also yielded 10 homers and a 38.0 percent hard contact rate to that handedness overall, while Realmuto has blasted lefties for a .496 wOBA and a 36.4 percent hard contact rate in 36 plate appearances. The Arizona bullpen has been vulnerable to right-handed hitters as well, surrendering 16 homers, including nine in May.
First Base
Joey Votto, CIN vs. ATL ($5,200): Votto tore through all comers in May, posting a .441 wOBA, 12.7 wRAA, 175 wRC+ and 38.0 percent hard contact rate. What's more, his walk rate rose to a robust 22.4 percent, making him a constant presence on the base paths. Friday's matchup against Braves starter Mike Foltynewicz could help him get June off to a similarly hot start, as the latter has surrendered a .379 wOBA to left-handed hitters, along with a 24.7 percent line drive rate and 34.3 percent hard contact rate. Votto boasts a .464 wOBA at home, including a .447 wOBA, .283 ISO, 28.1 percent line drive rate and 42.1 percent hard contact rate against righties there.
Second Base:
Jason Kipnis, CLE at KC ($4,100): Kipnis has punished Royals starter Jason Vargas for a .345 average, a homer and six RBI over 29 career encounters, while Vargas has been a reverse-splits pitcher, as evidenced by a .387 wOBA and 5.02 xFIP surrendered to lefty bats. Kipnis' dreadful start to the season still has his numbers below normal levels across the board, but he showed signs of coming out of his funk over the last 15 games, posting a .359 wOBA and smacking four homers. The Royals bullpen presents an even more favorable matchup, as they've surrendered 5.31 ERA and .363 wOBA to lefty bats.
Third Base:
Miguel Sano, MIN at LAA ($4,700): Sano smacked another homer Thursday, getting June off to a strong start after a month of May in which he posted a .369 wOBA and continued to punish the ball to the tune of a 51.2 percent hard contact rate. Sano owns a .423 wOBA against righties that rises to .536 when facing them on the road, and also boasts a 25.8 percent line drive rate and 64.5 percent hard contact rate versus that handedness away from Target Field. Angels starter J.C. Ramirez has been tough on right-handed hitters overall, but is still surrendering a 21.5 percent line drive rate (including 25.5 percent at home) and 36.6 percent hard contact rate to righty bats, indicating some regression could be looming.
Shortstop:
Brandon Crawford, SF at PHI ($3,100): Crawford, like most of his teammates, has underwhelmed offensively thus far, but a modest price and solid matchup render him a worthy GPP flyer. Phillies starter Jerad Eickhoff has been touched up by lefty bats for a .358 wOBA, six homers, 22.4 percent line drive rate and 32.4 percent hard contact, and he also yielded a .370 wOBA overall in five May starts. Crawford has hit for better average against southpaws but makes better contact against right-handed pitchers, as he sports a 22.0 percent line drive rate and 40.2 percent hard contact rate versus that handedness, with the latter figure rising to 44.2 percent on the road. He also posted a 25.0 percent line drive rate and 42.3 percent overall in his 74 plate appearances during May. The Phillies bullpen has also proven vulnerable to left-handed bats to the tune of a .321 wOBA and 13 homers.
Outfield
Marcell Ozuna, MIA vs. ARI ($4,800): D-Backs starter Patrick Corbin's troubles – and those of the Arizona bullpen -- against right-handed hitters were detailed earlier, while Ozuna has bludgeoned southpaws for a .431 wOBA, including .525 at Marlins Park. The slugging outfielder also wrapped up May with a .429 wOBA and 37.5 percent hard contact rate.
Matt Kemp, ATL at CIN ($4,600): Kemp boasts a .429 average and two homers over 30 career plate appearances against Reds starter Bronson Arroyo, and owns a .491 wOBA and 34.2 percent hard contact rate versus right-handed pitching on the road. Arroyo has also given up a .396 wOBA to right-handed hitters at Great American Ballpark, along with a 28.6 percent line drive rate and 45.6 percent hard contact rate.
Seth Smith, BAL vs. BOS ($3,200): Smith boasts a .346 wOBA against right-handed pitching at Camden Yards, along with a robust 28.6 percent line drive rate. Red Sox starter Rick Porcello has given up a .360 wOBA and 50.0 percent hard contact rate to the 59 lefty hitters he's faced outside of Fenway Park, and has also seen Smith touch him up for a .409 average, three doubles and a triple over 23 career plate appearances. The veteran righty is also coming off a month of May in which he surrendered a .365 wOBA and 43.1 percent hard contact rate in 38.0 innings.
