Yahoo DFS Baseball: Monday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

PITCHER

Sean Manaea, OAK vs. TOR ($41): On a short slate, it'll be hard not to use Manaea given that he's carved up good offenses (CLE, NYY, BOS) in his last three starts, allowing 12 hits and three runs with 20 strikeouts. Against the Blue Jays, who have a .300 wOBA and 22.9 percent K rate against lefties this season, it could be another great outing for Manaea.

Mike Fiers, HOU at KC ($30): Instead of rolling with another pricey pitcher, I'll dig through the bargain big for Fiers, although Junior Guerra ($36) can be used too. Fiers is coming off a solid eight-strikeout performance at Minnesota and has allowed seven hits or less in all but one start. With that average consistency, I'll take him against the Royals, who remain one of the worst offenses against righties with a .311 wOBA and 20.7 percent K rate since the start of May.

CATCHER

Austin Barnes, LAD vs. WAS ($11): None of the catcher options stand out and I'm passing on the Philadelphia-Atlanta game because of expected thunderstorms, so I'll pick the cheaper Barnes in a righty-lefty matchup. Gio Gonzalez has been off and on all season and is struggling against righties, allowing a .346 wOBA and 4.87 xFIP. Barnes has fallen off a bit lately, yet still has a .371 wOBA and .303 ISO in 33 at-bats against lefties.

FIRST BASE

Marwin Gonzalez, HOU at KC ($18): I've backed Gonzalez plenty the last couple of weeks and his play has backed it up. He's easiest to use against righties with a .464 wOBA and .362 ISO on the season. Ian Kennedy has allowed at least four runs in his last four starts and has a 5.33 xFIP against lefties.

SECOND BASE

Joe Panik, SF at MIL ($9): I'll jump on the cheap train and hope a lefty-righty matchup is enough for Panik. He has a hit in his last four games and a smaller 11.2 percent K rate against righties, so that's a good reason to try him against Guerra, who will be starting just his third game after a lengthy stint on the disabled list.

THIRD BASE

Travis Shaw, MIL vs. SF ($17): Taking Shaw against righties has only resulted in good things with a .383 wOBA, .257 ISO and much lower 20.3 percent K rate. Those numbers go hand-in-hand with Jeff Samardzija's struggles against lefties, as he's allowed a .380 wOBA and eight of his 10 homers he's given up. Samardzija has high strikeout numbers, but still has allowed at least three runs in four of his last five starts.

SHORTSTOP

J.T. Riddle, MIA at CHC ($10): For another cheap play, Riddle is worth a look with 22 hits in his last 19 games, which extends to a .317 wOBA and .196 ISO since May 1. There aren't many numbers on Eddie Butler, but he's had major issues against lefties with nine walks against 34 batters faced. Butler made it 4.1 innings last start against the Padres, giving up six runs, and this matchup won't be easier.

OUTFIELD

Carlos Beltran, HOU at KC ($16): While teammate George Springer is rolling, Beltran hasn't been bad himself and sports a .340 wOBA and .214 ISO against righties. Kennedy could have a tough time against the Astros considering how Houston has been hitting on its 10-game winning streak.

Dexter Fowler, STL at CIN ($18): Fowler doesn't have great overall numbers this season, but has come around since the start of May with a .393 wOBA and .306 ISO in 59 plate appearances. Asher Wojciechowski has just four big-league starts with his first one this season coming last week. He gave up three homers and four runs against the Jays.

Jason Heyward, CHC vs. MIA ($15): Heyward has hit safely in 12 of his last 14 games and has a .348 wOBA and minimal 10.8 percent K rate against righties. Dan Straily looked great and struck out 10 batters in his last start, but that may not be a huge worry for Heyward. Straily also has a mediocre 4.51 xFIP against lefties.
