FanDuel MLB: Tuesday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Tuesday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Robbie Ray, ARI vs SD ($10,000): Ray has been a beast as of late, scoring at least 51 fantasy points in three straight games. One of those games was against the Padres, his opponent tonight. He's been very consistent this season, recording at least six strikeouts in 10 of his 11 starts, and San Diego has been terrible against southpaws. The Padres have the lowest team wOBA against left-handed pitching with a .262 mark, 16 points lower than the next-worst team.

Catcher

Chris Herrmann, ARI vs SD ($2,100): All the D-backs are in play tonight (especially that Jake Lamb fellow) but Herrmann is the most economical way to get a piece of their action. His career numbers suggest he's nothing special, but most of that came in Minnesota in a pitcher's park and in an inferior lineup. This season he's raked at home against righties with a .424 wOBA. Rookie Dinelson Lamet is only making his third big-league start, and it's going to be a tough matchup against the Diamondbacks in the desert.

First Base

Tommy Joseph, PHI at ATL ($3,000): Joseph had a lot of success against southpaws last season with seven home runs in only 100 plate appearances. Those home runs fueled a .383 wOBA against left-handed hitting and tonight he gets Jaime Garcia. Garcia struggled with right-handed hitting last season allowing a .342 wOBA to that handedness.

Second Base

Javier Baez, CHI vs MIA ($2,600): Baez should be in the leadoff spot tonight with the Pirates sending Jeff Locke out to pitch. Baez had a .359 wOBA against left-handed pitching last season and Locke had his difficulties with right-handed hitting last season. His worst split last season was on the road against righties as he gave up a .396 wOBA to them. As always against a lefty, this is also a great spot to use teammate Kris Bryant.

Shortstop

Eric Sogard, MIL vs SF ($2,800): Sogard has done a nice job in the leadoff spot for the Brewers, averaging 10.8 fantasy points this season. The key for Sogard is his patience at the plate, where he has a .571 OBP and a 28.5 percent walk rate. Tonight he gets Matt Cain who, after giving up a .391 wOBA on the road to left-handed batters last season, has given up a .421 mark this season. Consider Travis Shaw and Eric Thames in this game as well.

Third Base

Nick Castellanos, DET vs LAA ($2,900): Castellanos is off to a slow start but could be turning things around. He's scored 12.2, 24.9, 24.9 and 12 fantasy points over his previous four games, and getting Jesse Chavez in Detroit is a decent matchup. Castellanos had a .387 wOBA at home last season against right-handed pitching and has followed that up with a .422 mark this season.

Outfield

Andrew Benintendi, BOS at NYY ($2,800): Benintendi has been a fixture in the cleanup spot and has a good matchup tonight in New York. Yankee Stadium plays very favorably for left-handed hitters and Masahiro Tanaka has a .352 wOBA mark against them this season. This also may be the cheapest price Benintendi will be all season.

Odubel Herrera, PHI at ATL ($2,700): It almost seems like tempting fate to ignore Herrera in cash games tonight. He's absolutely on fire right now having scored 22.5, 40.9 and 40.6 fantasy points over his last three games. The lefty-on-lefty matchup with Garcia might not look good, but Herrera has a .358 wOBA against that handedness this season.

Guillermo Heredia, SEA vs MIN ($2,800): Of course Nelson Cruz is in play against Hector Santiago, but Heredia has shown some early season success against lefties as well. Heredia has a .381 OBA against southpaws this season and Santiago has struggled with a 4.76 ERA this season.
