FanDuel MLB: Tuesday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Tuesday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Amir Garrett, LAA at TB ($7,200) – Garrett is coming off one of his better outings of the season, finishing with 40 fantasy points despite taking the loss. This is all about the matchup, as the Rays have struggled this season against left-handed pitching. Tampa is in the bottom third of the leagues with a .299 wOBA against southpaws, but their league-worst 27 percent strikeout rate against that handedness is what really sticks out. This is the first time Garrett has faced the Rays and typically that situation favors the pitcher, not the hitters.

Catcher

Miguel Montero, CHC vs SD ($2,300) – Punting at catcher is usually a good idea and Montero gives that opportunity while likely finding himself in the cleanup spot tonight. Montero has a .443 wOBA against right-handed pitching at Wrigley this season and Jhoulys Chacin is about as good of a matchup as he'll get. On the road this season Chacin has given up a .550 wOBA to left-handed hitters.

First Base

Brandon Belt, SF at ATL ($2,900) – This pick is for the BvP enthusiasts, as Belt has owned Julio Teheran in a small sample. Belt has gone 7-for-12 against Teheran with two home runs, good for a 1.750 OPS. Teheran has struggled against lefty bats this season, giving up a .385 wOBA to that side of the plate.

Second Base

Jason Kipnis, CLE at BAL ($3,300) – While this isn't necessarily cheap, Kipnis is only the 13th highest-priced second baseman tonight. He had a .353 wOBA against right-handed pitching last season and typically hits in the leadoff spot. Chris Tillman has given up a .451 wOBA to left-handed hitters this season and it doesn't hurt that Kipnis has gone 4-for-14 with two home runs against him.

Shortstop

Didi Gregorius, NYY vs LAA ($3,300) – Lost in the Aaron Judge story is that Gregorius is having a huge season with seven home runs and a .330 batting average. Building on 20 home runs last season, Gregorius has shown a better approach at the plate, raising his average 54 points. Tonight he'll face Parker Bridwell who will be making the first road start of his career. Bridwell is not a huge prospect and should get roughed up in general by the Yankee offense.

Third Base

Kyle Seager, SEA vs DET ($3,400)Jordan Zimmermann has been absolutely awful this season against left-handed batters, giving up a .385 wOBA, and that numbers balloons to .479 on the road. Seager raked at home last season against right-handed pitching with a .395 wOBA, making this an ideal matchup for him tonight.

Outfield

Chris Young, BOS at KC ($2,300) – Young is a notorious lefty-killer, posting a career .363 wOBA against southpaws after boasting a .422 mark last season. Matt Strahm is a young lefty who is only making his second start in the big leagues and will be on a pitch count. Young should get in at least two at-bats against Strahm and usually hits high in the batting order when the Red Sox face a lefty.

Robbie Grossman, MIN vs CWS ($2,900) – A few of the Twins bats are in play tonight including Brian Dozier and Miguel Sano along with Grossman. Grossman has a career .342 wOBA against left-handed pitching and is typically in the cleanup spot for the Twins. He'll face Derek Holland, who has surrendered a .378 wOBA to right-handed hitting this season and given up 15 earned runs in his last three starts (13 innings).

Andrew McCutchen, PIT at MIL ($3,400) – McCutchen's price has steadily increased as the season has progress, and in typical fashion for him he's rebounded after a slow start. Fueled by five home runs he has a 1.176 OPS over the last two weeks, raising his season-long mark to .809. Tonight's opponent, Zach Davies, has given up a .378 wOBA to opposition right-handed hitters at home this season.
