DraftKings MLB: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Jake Odorizzi, TB vs. BAL ($7,900): Odorizzi has an opportunity to stifle the Baltimore bats with his changeup, as they remain a bottom-five offense against the pitch, according to RAA. It is also worth noting that the Orioles strike out 23 percent of the time against right-handed pitching, and Odorizzi's 11 percent swinging strike rate would qualify as the best mark of his career if the season ended today.

Jason Hammel, KC vs. TOR ($8,000): While most of us (myself included) were content to write Hammel off in 2017, he has clawed his way back to relevance, allowing no more than three runs in any of his last four starts. Hammel's resurgence seems to have been driven by an improved slider, which has registered a 5.2 RAA. The Blue Jays are a bottom-10 team against the pitch, and have also tallied the ninth-lowest wOBA against right-handed pitching (.314).

CATCHER

Tyler Flowers, ATL vs. MIL ($3,900): Flowers has hit well against righties all season, but he seems to finally be coming around in the power department, as he has tallied a .161 ISO over 149 at-bats. Zach Davies' fastball has clocked in at nearly six runs below average, while Flowers has notched an 8.2 RAA against the pitch.

FIRST BASE

Logan Morrison, TB vs. BAL ($5,000):Chris Tillman is our top pitcher to stack against, as he has tallied an 8:18 K:BB ratio against lefties over 16.2 innings, which has contributed to an extraordinary 7.14 xFIP. Morrison has notched an 11.0 RAA against the fastball this season, while Tillman's heater has clocked in at minus-10.7 RAA.

SECOND BASE

Whit Merrifield, KC vs. TOR ($3,800): Merrifield's power against lefties has eroded a bit over the past few weeks, but he still holds a .360 wOBA over 49 at-bats. Francisco Liriano has issued free passes to 29 right-handed batters in just 39.2 innings this season, which should allow Merrifield to use his robust walk rate (11 percent) to get on base and score points.

THIRD BASE

Travis Shaw, MIL at ATL ($4,100):Julio Teheran has allowed 11 home runs to left-handed batters over 46.2 innings this season, while notching a bloated 6.65 ERA in 43.1 frames at SunTrust Park. This all seems to bode well for Shaw, who boasts a .264 ISO and 37 percent hard contact rate when facing righties.

SHORTSTOP

Trea Turner, WAS vs. CIN ($5,300): Turner has kept a reverse split in 2017, notching a .180 ISO and .355 wOBA against righties over 217 at-bats. Scott Feldman has been knocked around away from Great American Ballpark, allowing a .447 slugging percentage which has resulted in a 5.15 ERA over 36.2 innings.

OUTFIELD

Aaron Hicks, NYY vs. TEX ($4,200): It seems highly unlikely that Nick Martinez will be able to prevent runs at Yankee Stadium, as he has logged just a 12:9 K:BB ratio against lefties over 22.1 innings, which has contributed to a 5.85 xFIP. Hicks has registered a 6.7 RAA against the fastball to go along with a .216 ISO against right-handed pitching.

Mookie Betts, BOS vs. LAA ($5,000):Parker Bridwell has been lit up by righties in a small sample, as evidenced by the .680 slugging percentage he has surrendered over six innings. Betts has done some of his best work against lefties this year, but should be able to keep plenty of pressure on the rookie with his .197 ISO and 11 percent walk rate against same-handed pitchers.

Scooter Gennett, CIN at WAS ($4,200):Tanner Roark has allowed eight homers to left-handed hitters over 40.2 innings, while Gennett has handled righties in 2017, logging a .284 ISO and 39 percent hard contact rate over 134 at-bats.
