FanDuel MLB: Tuesday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Tuesday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Dan Straily, MIA vs. NYM ($8,100) : The Mets were running hot against righties on the road in late May and early June, but they've cooled off over the last two weeks, generating a .294 wOBA in 131 plate appearances against that handedness over that span. Straily brings significant upside for a pitcher at his salary, having scored between 31 and 57 fantasy points in seven of his last nine starts while posting quality starts in five of those outings. He's been excellent at Marlins Park all season as well, as evidenced by his 2.17 ERA, .181 BAA, .252 wOBA and 0.59 HR/9 there over 45.2 innings. Furthermore, the Mets could be without one of their most potent lefty bats in Michael Conforto (hand), which would be yet another factor in Straily's favor.

CATCHER

Wilson Ramos, TAM at PIT ($2,400): Ramos finally made his season debut Saturday following offseason knee surgery and has now had two full days to rest after receiving the day off Sunday. If he's able to provide anything close to the level of production that he generated last season in Washington (.307/.354/.496, 22 homers, 80 RBI), he won't be anywhere near this salary for very long. The matchup against Pirates starter Trevor Williams is a solid one as well, as the young righty has given up a .330 wOBA to right-handed hitters along with a 36.7 percent hard contact rate when facing them at PNC Park. Ramos tagged righty arms for a .347 wOBA and 35.6 percent hard contact rate in 2016, while the Pittsburgh bullpen has yielded a 4.73 ERA, five homers, a .327 wOBA and 34.5 percent hard contact rate in 138 plate appearances against right-handed hitters at home in the last month.

FIRST BASE

Mitch Moreland, BOS vs. MIN ($3,200): Yonder Alonso ($3,100) also makes for a strong pivot in this price range if Moreland were to sit out the lefty-on-lefty matchup, but the Red Sox first baseman has been coming on and draws the returning Hector Santiago, who's surrendered a .637 wOBA, 22.9 percent line drive rate, 51.4 percent hard contact rate and six homers to the 51 lefty batters he's faced in 2017. Moreland owns a .356 wOBA and has blasted six homers in June (including one in each of the last three games) while making hard contact at a 45.6 percent clip. He's also held his own in same-handed matchups, especially at Fenway, where he owns a .344 wOBA, 31.3 percent line drive rate and 43.8 percent hard contact rate over 25 plate appearances versus southpaws.

SECOND BASE

D.J. LeMahieu, COL at SFG ($3,000): LeMahieu has pounded Giants starter Matt Cain for a .400 average, a homer and two RBI over 28 career plate appearances, and he owns a .349 wOBA over 112 plate appearances in June. After an inconsistent start to the season, he's now carrying a .312 wOBA on the road against righties, while Cain surrenders a .358 wOBA to righty bats, along with a 24.6 percent line drive rate and 32.8 percent hard contact rate when facing them at home. The veteran right-hander's also been struggling as of late, posting a .460 wOBA, 5.87 xFIP, 2.35 WHIP and 8.84 ERA across the 18.1 innings encompassing his last four starts.

THIRD BASE

Kyle Seager, SEA vs. PHI ($2,800): Seager has uncharacteristically struggled some with consistency this season, but he does have a pair of 30-plus fantasy point outings in his last 10 games. He's also boasting a .351 wOBA, .206 ISO and 44.8 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching at home, while Phillies starter Aaron Nola has struggled against lefty bats, yielding a .349 wOBA to that handedness. Nola has also seen a notable drop in his numbers across the board when facing lefty hitters on the road, and the Phillies bullpen has surrendered a 9.49 ERA and .422 wOBA to left-handed hitters on the road in the last month.

SHORTSTOP

Elvis AndrusTEX at CLE ($3,200): Andrus exploded for 53.6 fantasy points Monday on the strength of a pair of homers and he owns a .355 wOBA versus right-handed pitching, including .364 in June. Indians starter Mike Clevinger has generally been solid but his troubles have mainly come at Progressive Field, where he's yielded a .372 wOBA, 4.89 xFIP and 34.8 percent hard contact rate to right-handed hitters.

OUTFIELD

Randal Grichuk, STL at ARI ($2,700): Grichuk was sent to the minors in late May to work on his hitting and it's apparently paid dividends, as he blasted a mammoth 478-foot shot in his first game back Sunday and then added another homer Monday. He now owns a .320 wOBA, .207 ISO, 22.9 percent line drive rate and 39.6 percent hard contact rate versus right-handed pitching, and his price and upside make him a viable value option despite a matchup against the hard-throwing Taijuan Walker.

Yasiel Puig, LOS vs. LAA ($2,400): Puig's bat has come alive in June as evidenced by a .404 wOBA, .278 ISO and an improvement in his strikeout rate of more than eight percent. He also owns a .384 wOBA, .320 ISO and 35.0 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching at home, along with nine of his 14 homers on the season. Angels starter Jesse Chavez has been vulnerable to right-handed hitters, allowing a .385 wOBA (including .421 on the road) and 14 homers, along with a 49.4 percent hard contact rate when facing them on the road. He's had a rough go of it in June overall, generating a .393 wOBA, 6.64 ERA, 5.27 xFIP and 31.0 percent line drive rate in the 20.1 innings encompassing his last four starts.

Lonnie Chisenhall, CLE vs. TEX ($2,800): Chisenhall has been on a tear recently, scoring between 15 and 44.4 fantasy points in six of his last 13 games. The stretch is part of a torrid June in which he's posted a .461 wOBA and .271 ISO across 65 plate appearances, including a .445 wOBA versus right-handed pitching. Rangers starter Tyson Ross regressed his last time out after a strong debut, and he's given up a .322 wOBA to lefty bats over his long career. Meanwhile, the fatigued Rangers bullpen has been much more generous, allowing a 10.13 ERA, .452 wOBA and 43.6 percent hard contact rate to left-handed hitters on the road over the last month.
