FanDuel MLB: Saturday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Saturday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Rich Hill, LAD at SDP ($8.600): FanDuel has split their contests nearly evenly in terms of games played per slate and we're going to focus on the evening main slate for this piece, which offers a handful of arms with less than ideal matchups. Zack Greinke vs. Colorado, Gio Gonzalez on the road, Jordan Montgomery at Houston, and Tyler Chatwood at Arizona? No thanks... which leaves Hill. The Padres have yet to announce a starter, but it remains likely the Dodgers will be heavy favorites in the contest. Hill has been much safer over his last two outings, allowing just four runs while striking out 15 in 12.0 innings. San Diego has a mere .283 wOBA and 74 wRC+ against lefties this year, and Hill struck out eight in six shutout innings in his only visit to Petco Park last year.

Catcher

Gary Sanchez, NYY at HOU ($3,700): The price remains steep for the position, but the injury-plagued Yanks remain an offense to target against Houston starter Francis Martes, and Sanchez is $1,300 cheaper than Aaron Judge. Martes is allowing a 53.8 percent fly ball rate at home to righties, and 20 percent of the flyballs he allows to the same handedness are leaving the park. Sanchez has a .401 wOBA, 153 wRC+ and .264 ISO on the road against righties.

First Base

Cody Bellinger, LAD at SDP ($3,900): Bellinger has gone homerless in eight of his last nine games entering play Friday but continues to carry a .411 wOBA and .390 ISO against southpaws to date. Padres' starter Clayton Richard is a stout groundball inducer, allowing only a 12.5 percent flyball rate to lefties, but will be tested by Bellinger's 56.8 percent lift rate and 24.0 percent homer to fly rate.

Second Base

Daniel Descalso, ARI vs. COL ($3,200): The five-game slate offered up very slim pickings at the keystone, with Descalso appearing to represent the cheapest reliable floor before things bottomed out. He owns a .387 wOBA and 133wRC+ at home against righties, by far and away his best split of the four possible scenarios, and Chatwood has allowed six runs over his last 9.1 innings.

Third Base

Jake Lamb, ARI vs. COL ($3,900): It was just Wednesday when I penned a similar column using Lamb as an always safe choice against righties with a high ceiling to boot. Most don't need to be reminded of his ability to hit opposite-handed arms, but Lamb's .426 wOBA, 159 wRC+, .319 ISO and 1.044 OPS at home against righties has to be included here. With the limited slate, Lamb's 4-for-13 career record with two homers, five RBI and two walks against Chatwood is also worth mentioning.

Shortstop

Didi Gregorius, NYY at HOU ($3,300): Gregorius was elevated to the cleanup spot Friday, largely due to injuries but also because Sanchez was being rested. That said, the Yankees have so few healthy regulars, Gregorius should still be locked in to a meaningful lineup spot when Sanchez returns as opposed to his customary six or seven hole. He's got a solid, though unspectacular, .339 wOBA and 111 wRC+ against righties to date, and we've previously touched on Martes' vulnerabilities. Non-Judge Yankee bats are very affordable Saturday evening.

Outfield

George Springer, HOU vs. NYY ($4,300): Springer comes $700 cheaper than Judge and offers nearly as much upside facing Montgomery. Springer owns an obscene .468 wOBA, 202 wRC+ and .380 ISO against lefties, whom he's taken deep eight times in 72 at-bats. Montgomery is allowing lefties to lift the ball at just a 31.3 percent rate on the road, but 40 percent of those fly balls are leaving the yard.

Mitch Haniger, SEA at LAA ($3,200): Haniger leads Mariner regulars with a .393 wOBA and 152 wRC+ against righties, numbers that he mirrors on the road while posting a .267 ISO (compared to .135 at home). Angels' starter Ricky Nolasco has a 6.08 ERA at home, where he's allowing a .382 wOBA to right-handed bats.

Brian Goodwin, WAS at STL ($2,700): Goodwin took over for Trea Turner atop the Nats' leadoff spot Friday, and so long as that sticks and his price remains under $3,000, there'll be plenty of appeal. His .331 wOBA and 101 wRC+ over 94 at-bats is serviceable enough, especially against Michael Wacha's 5.55 June ERA.
