DraftKings MLB: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Jose Quintana, CWS vs. TEX ($10,700): Paying up for Quintana may make some uncomfortable, but the matchup is a surprisingly strong one. The Rangers are a bottom-10 team against the curveball, a pitch the 28-year-old throws nearly 30 percent of the time. It is also worth noting that Texas holds the second-lowest wOBA in the league against lefties while notching a strikeout rate of 28 percent.

Jeff Samardzija, SF at PIT ($9,600): The Pirates clock in as a bottom-10 team against right-handed pitching this season, while notching a hard contact rate of just 30 percent. The Shark should be able to keep Pittsburgh in line with his 44 percent ground-ball rate, as they hit the ball on the ground at a 47 percent clip.

CATCHER

Salvador Perez, KC vs. MIN ($4,000):Hector Santiago has allowed at least one home run in each of his last seven starts, and he has struck out just 18 percent of the right-handed batters he has faced. Perez has notched a .200 ISO from both sides of the platoon this season, but he has really shown a tendency to barrel up lefties, as evidenced by his 47 percent hard contact rate over 78 at-bats.

FIRST BASE

Logan Morrison, TB at BAL ($4,000): Morrison has shown no sign of slowing his power binge. The 29-year-old has a .332 ISO against righties after homering twice Saturday against the Orioles. He should have ample opportunity to continue mashing against Kevin Gausman, who holds a 6.16 xFIP against lefties over 34 innings this season.

SECOND BASE

Ian Happ, CHC at CIN ($3,800):Tim Adleman has had trouble with the long ball in the hitter-friendly confines of Great American Ballpark, having allowed 10 homers over 43.2 innings. Happ would do well to cut down on his strikeouts, but he has logged a .270 ISO and a 35 percent hard contact rate against righties in 2017.

THIRD BASE

Eduardo Escobar, MIN at KC ($3,500): Escobar represents a sneaky value play whenever a mediocre lefty is on the mound, having logged a .243 ISO and 38 percent hard contact rate over 70 at-bats. Travis Wood could be considered a stack target on the main slate, as the 30-year-old hasn't started a game since 2015, and he has registered a 6.28 ERA to go along with his 13 percent walk rate in 25 appearances out of the bullpen this year.

SHORTSTOP

Eric Sogard, MIL vs. MIA ($3,800):Dan Straily has been a solid asset this season but has struggled a bit on the road, having tallied an ERA approaching 5.00 over 38.1 innings. While Sogard has shown more power against lefties this year, his .427 wOBA against righties makes him well worth a play at less than $4,000.

OUTFIELD

Curtis Granderson, NYM vs. PHI ($4,400): It seems odd to be recommending Granderson after the way his season began, but there is no way to argue with the 10.7 RAA he holds against the fastball or his .245 ISO against righties. Nick Pivetta notched a couple of solid starts before crashing down to earth in his last outing against the Diamondbacks, and he comes in with a fastball that has registered a minus-10.5 RAA.

Marcell Ozuna, MIA at MIL ($3,600):Junior Guerra has yet to find the magic that made him a standout as a 31-year-old rookie last season. His arsenal does not contain an above-average pitch, and he has allowed a .530 slugging percentage to righties. Meanwhile, Ozuna has logged a .281 ISO and a 44 percent hard contact rate against same-handed opposition.

Scott Schebler, CIN vs. CHC ($3,500):Jake Arrieta's cutter hasn't been fooling anyone in 2017, having registered a minus-9.7 RAA. Schebler has been the best hitter in the league against the pitch this season (6.4 RAA), and he has tallied a .274 ISO against right-handers.
