Yahoo DFS Baseball: Monday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

PITCHER

Aaron Nola, PHI vs. PIT ($43): A lot of people will be going with Stephen Strasburg ($52), but he hasn't had much success against the Mets in a couple starts this year. Nola has been lights out in his last two with 17 strikeouts and only nine hits allowed. Pittsburgh is middle of the road against righties (.323 wOBA since June 1) and already had trouble with Nola back in May, scoring once in seven innings.

Adam Wainwright, STL vs. MIA ($32): There are a couple cheaper options worth a look and Wainwright gets the call due to his upside with 13 strikeouts in his last two starts. The last one was a win against the Diamondbacks so getting the Marlins at home can be just as good. Miami has one of the worst wOBAs against righties since the beginning of June at .310.

CATCHER

Tony Wolters, COL vs. CIN ($9): In order to save some money, I'll bet on Wolters to return to the lineup Monday. This is mainly a value play at Coors Field with Wolters having a .389 wOBA and low 10.7 percent K rate against righties in home games. Luis Castillo has been fine in his couple starts, but it's unlikely he'll make it six innings in Colorado.

FIRST BASE

Joe Mauer, MIN vs. LAA ($13): Mauer should only be used against righties and that's what we're looking at. He has a .353 wOBA against them and faces unreliable Alex Meyer. The righty hurler has had some lights-out starts, but still has a 4.41 xFIP against lefties and a high 16.5 percent BB rate, meaning he won't make it more than six innings.

SECOND BASE

Scooter Gennett, CIN at STL ($15): This is a perfect spot for Gennett, who is already crushing righties with a .464 wOBA and .341 ISO since June 1. Throw in Coors Field and Jeff Hoffman, who has a 4.21 xFIP against lefties, and it's an easy decision. Hoffman has given up 15 hits, 10 runs and only has four Ks in his last two starts at home.

THIRD BASE

Deven Marrero, BOS at TEX ($7): This price doesn't make sense given that Marrero has 10 hits in his last six starts. In 35 plate appearances against lefties this season, he has a .466 wOBA and .424 ISO. Matching up with that, Martin Perez isn't striking out righties with a 14.6 percent K rate and a poor 4.90 xFIP. Another boost is that Martin is coming off the 10-day DL after fracturing his thumb (non-throwing hand).

SHORTSTOP

Orlando Arcia, MIL vs. BAL ($14): If you're playing the early game, Arcia is a decent play even though his numbers against lefties haven't been great. He's still been consistent and has 15 hits in the last nine games. Wade Miley hasn't had a good outing in awhile, giving up at least six hits and three runs in his last five starts, none of them making it six innings.

OUTFIELD

Scott Schebler, CIN at COL ($19): With the slate's highest over/under, it makes sense to grab multiple guys from the Reds-Rockies game. Schebler has better numbers against lefties this year, but that kind of stat changes at Coors and he still has a solid .349 wOBA and .271 ISO against righties. Hoffman doesn't have many appearances at home, but allows a .385 wOBA and 5.01 xFIP (75 batters faced) against lefties.

Raimel Tapia, COL vs. CIN ($12): Here's another lefty against a mostly inexperienced Castillo. Tapia has busted righties with a .415 wOBA since June 1 and that number jumps to .427 in home games for the season. At this price, there's little reason not to use Tapia.

Shin-Soo Choo, TEX vs. BOS ($20): Things haven't been going smoothly for Rick Porcello, so you need at least one Ranger on the squad. Choo is a reasonable place to turn with a .364 wOBA and .200 ISO, with those numbers higher since the beginning of June (.380 and .230). Porcello isn't figuring things out, giving up 42 hits and 24 runs in his last five outings.
