Yahoo DFS Baseball: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Pitcher

Ariel Miranda, SEA vs. KC ($38): Miranda may not be the first name a DFS player thinks of when attempting to select a pitcher, but the 28-year-old has notched a 10.0 RAA with his fastball this season, while the Royals hold the seventh lowest RAA in the league against the pitch. It is also worth noting that the Royals fall just outside the bottom 10 when it comes to wOBA against lefties.

Ervin Santana, MIN vs. LAA ($41): Santana will take three above average pitches into the contest against the Angels. We will focus on the fastball, as the Angels hold the second lowest RAA against the pitch this season. The Angels offense has been sorely lacking without the services of Mike Trout, as evidenced by their bottom five wOBA against right-handed pitching.

Catcher

Manny Pina, MIL vs. BAL ($15): Pina appears to have lost the everyday catcher spot to new arrival Stephen Vogt, but he is still worth a look versus lefties, as he has notched a .375 wOBA and 52 percent hard contact rate over 52 at-bats. Jayson Aquino will fill in for Chris Tillman on late notice while he is on the paternity list. The 24-year-old allowed three homers in eight innings with the big club earlier this season, and holds a 4.46 ERA at Triple-A Norfolk.

First Base

Mitch Moreland, BOS at TEX ($14): Andrew Cashner's 6.11 xFIP against lefties finally appears to be catching up with him, as he has allowed five runs in three of his last six starts. He will need to work hard to stem the tide against Moreland, who has tallied a .225 ISO and a 44 percent hard contact rate against opposite-handed pitchers.

Second Base

Jason Kipnis, CLE vs. SD ($13): Luis Perdomo has gotten better results with his fastball this season, but below average strikeout and walk rates have led to a 5.25 xFIP against lefties. Kipnis hasn't been as productive as we have seen in recent years, but still holds a .162 ISO against right-handed pitching.

Third Base

Joey Gallo, TEX vs. BOS ($13): Lefties have not been kind to Doug Fister in his return to a major league mound this season, as they have registered a .550 slugging percentage in 4.2 innings. Gallo should be able to take advantage of the groundball tendencies of Fister, having hit the ball in the air at a 61 percent clip.

Shortstop

Asdrubal Cabrera, NYM at WAS ($13): Tanner Roark has been hit awfully hard of late, surrendering at least six runs in three of his last four starts. He has amassed a 5.27 ERA over 95.2 innings. Cabrera isn't traditionally thought of as a power hitter, but he has notched a .179 ISO over 162 at-bats against right-handers.

Outfield

J.D. Martinez, DET vs. SF ($20): Ty Blach's extreme lack of strikeouts has hurt him away from AT&T Park in 2017. He has logged a 5.66 ERA on the road over 35 innings. Meanwhile, Martinez has been setting lefties on fire through 30 at-bats this season, tallying a .667 ISO over that span.

Andrew McCutchen, PIT at PHI ($24): Ben Lively is another pitcher who suffers due to his inability to put hitters away at the plate. He has surrendered a .481 slugging percentage to righties this season. McCutchen has done his best work against lefties in 2017, but has still notched a .191 ISO over 236 at-bats against right-handed pitching.

Matt Kemp, ATL vs. HOU ($12): Kemp has struggled lately, but still holds a 10.7 RAA against the fastball. Joe Musgrove has had trouble keeping the ball in the park against righties this season, having allowed nine homers in just 36.1 innings.
