FanDuel MLB: Saturday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Saturday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Brandon McCarthy, LAD vs. KAN ($7,500): Coming off the DL to make one start before the break, McCarthy is highly unlikely to be an innings eater Saturday. But he's allowed two or fewer runs in 10 of his 13 starts to date and has a reasonable 20.5 percent strikeout rate at home. The Royals rank 25th with a .305 wOBA against righties while adding an 85 wRC+, numbers that are nearly identical on the road (.304/87), suggesting McCarthy has an awfully safe floor at a modest price.

Catcher

Buster Posey, SFG vs. MIA ($3,100): Posey has fared extremely well against lefties, owning a .440 wOBA and 178 wRC+, both team-high totals. That figures to play nicely against 27-year-old rookie Chris O'Grady in his big-league debut.

First Base

Paul Goldschmidt, ARI vs. CIN ($4,100):When he's not the highest priced first baseman, Goldschmidt immediately qualifies as a bargain. The Arizona offense as a whole has been impressive at home, and Goldschmidt leads the way with a .477 wOBA, 193 wRC+, 1.165 OPS and .347 ISO. He'll look to tee off against Luis Castillo, who has a 5.06 road ERA and is allowing righties to post a .422 wOBA and .966 OPS.

Second Base

DJ LeMahieu, COL vs. CWS ($3,400): Three Rockies' regulars rank in the top 30 overall at home against lefties in wOBA, and LeMahieu is the cheapest option with a sterling .469 wOBA and 176 wRC+. White Sox starter Jose Quintana hasn't been awful on the road (3.93 ERA) but given the Rockies prowess against lefties at Coors Field, LeMahieu is a low priced buy-in for what could set up as a nice stack.

Third Base

Matt Davidson, CWS at COL ($3,700): It's a steep price to pay when you're essentially banking on a long ball, but all White Sox bats appear to have inflated price tags with Jeff Hoffman and his 6.85 home ERA on the bump. Davidson is no lock to play Saturday without a DH, but his .327 wOBA and 102 wRC+ rank better in this lineup that the likes of higher priced options like Jose Abreu and Todd Frazier, giving him some upside in a likely high-scoring affair.

Shortstop

Andrelton Simmons, LAA at TEX ($2,700): Rangers' starter Tyson Ross has allowed 14 runs over 19.2 frames to date, making him easy to pick on. The Angels' limited lineup makes Simmons and his .334 wOBA and 112 wRC+ against righties worth the risk, as they are numbers that match or are better than higher priced teammates Kole Calhoun and Cameron Maybin.

Outfield

Lonnie Chisenhall, CLE vs. DET ($3,400): Chisenhall has been marginally better against lefties (.449 wOBA vs. .380 wOBA), but his power has been more prevalent versus right-handers, against which he sports a .297 ISO (opposed to .184), having hit 10 of his 12 homers against opposite-handed pitchers. That could set him up for success against Justin Verlander, who carries a 6.22 road ERA while allowing lefties to post a .345 wOBA. For good measure, Chisenhall is 15-of-44 (.341) against Verlander in his career, owning a 1.042 OPS partly thanks to three long balls.

Ian Happ, CHC vs. PIT ($3,400): Happ's .370 wOBA and .301 ISO against righties play well here, but when paired with Pirates' starter Ivan Nova's inability to fan lefties (9.3 percent), it virtually takes Happ's 30.0 strikeout percentage out of play. That gives him a good chance to take advantage of his .308 BABIP against righties. He's also hit 10 of his 12 long balls off them.

Carlos Gomez, TEX vs. LAA ($3,200): Angels' starter Jesse Chavez has allowed only two runs in two of his last three starts, yet still sits with a 4.97 ERA. That number balloons to 6.17 on the road, which plays into Gomez's wheelhouse. Gomez has a .490 wOBA, 209 wRC+ and .360 ISO at home against right-handers.
