DraftKings MLB: Friday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Friday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

Pitcher

Jacob deGrom, NYM vs. COL ($11,800): The Rockies lose a significant amount of their offensive might on the road, where they rate as a bottom-10 team according to wOBA. deGrom has kept a 14 percent swinging strike rate this season, and he should be able to keep Colorado at bay with his slider, as they hold the lowest RAA in the league against the pitch.

R.A. Dickey, ATL vs. ARI ($6,600): It can be hard to know what to do with knuckleballers on a start-to-start basis thanks to the unpredictability of the pitch, but Dickey has shown good form of late, notching at least 24.8 DraftKings points in three of his last four starts. He has struck out at least six in all but one start over that span. The Diamondbacks are a bottom-5 team and carry a 25 percent strikeout rate on the road.

Catcher

Buster Posey, SF at SD ($3,800): Posey has worn out lefty pitching this season, notching a .250 ISO and a .439 wOBA over 84 at-bats. Opposing starter Clayton Richard has allowed a .525 slugging percentage to right-handed hitters to go along with a 35 percent hard contact rate.

First Base

Anthony Rizzo, CHC at BAL ($4,800):Kevin Gausman showed signs of life prior to the All-Star break but still carries a -6.6 RAA with his fastball, while Rizzo sports a robust 12.0 RAA against the pitch. Gausman will likely continue to struggle against left-handers if he can't rein in the 14 percent walk rate he has kept over 38 innings.

Second Base

Daniel Murphy, WAS at CIN ($5,200):Tim Adleman has combined a below average strikeout rate (15 percent) with a 2.4 HR/9 rate against lefties this season. This doesn't bode well for the right-hander against Murphy, who has notched a .237 ISO and a .400 wOBA against his opposite hand.

Third Base

Miguel Sano, MIN at HOU ($4,400):Charlie Morton has struggled to keep the ball in the park against righties, having allowed six homers over 32.2 innings. Sano should be able to take advantage of the veteran's ground-ball tendencies, as he has hit the ball in the air at a 43 percent clip.

Shortstop

Freddy Galvis, PHI at MIL ($3,600): Galvis will likely never be confused for a power hitter, but sports a .186 ISO against righties over 215 at-bats this season. Opposing starter Zach Davies has allowed a .500 slugging percentage to left-handed hitters this season to go along with just a 15 percent strikeout rate.

Outfield

Justin Upton, DET vs. TOR ($4,200):Aaron Sanchez got tagged for eight runs (five earned) in just 1.2 innings in his return from the disabled list last week. Sanchez has seen just 26 innings this season as a result of injury, notching a 4.85 ERA and a 2.1 HR/9 rate over that span. Upton has shown good power against righties in 2017, as evidenced by his .235 ISO over 238 at-bats.

Keon Broxton, MIL vs. PHI ($4,000):Nick Pivetta has made strides recently, but I am not ready to give up on him as a source for offensive points, as he has allowed a .639 slugging percentage to right-handed hitters. Meanwhile, Broxton has registered a .212 ISO and a 34 percent hard contact rate against same-handed hurlers in 208 at-bats.

Ben Gamel, SEA at CWS ($3,300):James Shields has been serving batting practice to lefties this season. He will enter the contest against the Mariners having allowed seven homers in just 16 innings. Gamel has notched a 16.4 RAA against the fastball, while also registering a .353 wOBA against righty pitching.
