DraftKings MLB: Friday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Friday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

Pitcher

Alex Wood, LAD vs. SF ($11,700) - Wood has notched significantly above-average marks with his fastball, curveball and changeup according to RAA. The Giants are a bottom-10 team against all of those pitches. The 26-year-old has logged a swinging strike rate of over 13 percent in 2017, while keeping a hard contact rate of just 21 percent over 17 games (15 starts).

Jaime Garcia, MIN at OAK ($6,900) - The A's lineup contains more than one right-handed power bat, so it may surprise some to learn that they hold the lowest wOBA against lefty pitching this season. Garcia has seen his swinging strike rate rise to 11.5 percent, which should prove useful against a team that strikes out against southpaws at a 26 percent clip.

Catcher

Yan Gomes, CLE at CWS ($3,300) - Opposing starter Derek Holland has had all sorts of trouble with righties this season. They have slugged .567 against him over a healthy sample size of 79 innings, while also notching a hard contact rate approaching 41 percent. Gomes thrives against the platoon, having notched a .275 ISO and a 41 percent hard contact rate in 69 at-bats.

First Base

Joey Votto, CIN at MIA ($5,200) - Vance Worley will take the start after Tom Koehler was demoted to Triple-A New Orleans, but it doesn't seem like the Marlins made an upgrade with the move. Worley has allowed a .613 slugging percentage and a 52 percent hard contact rate against lefties over 14 innings this season. Votto has hit a bit of a rough patch since the All-Star break, but he still holds a .265 ISO and .417 wOBA over 260 at-bats against righties.

Second Base

Chris Taylor, LAD vs. SF ($4,700) - Taylor has been one of the game's better hitters in the month of July, slashing .438/.458/.725 over 80 at-bats. Dodger Stadium has been friendlier to hitters in 2017 than any other time in recent memory, and Matt Moore has been hammered to the tune of a 7.61 ERA in 49.2 innings on the road.

Third Base

Joey Gallo, TEX vs. BAL ($3,700) - Chris Tillman has walked more lefty batters than he has struck out this season, which has contributed to a 6.65 xFIP over 25.2 innings. Gallo has destroyed right-handed pitchers in 2017, notching a .339 ISO and a 42 percent hard contact rate over 218 at-bats.

Shortstop

Paul DeJong, STL vs. ARI ($3,900) - DeJong has seemingly come out of nowhere to be an impact bat in the Cardinals lineup. This is particularly apparent against lefties, as he has logged a .424 ISO and a .461 wOBA over 33 at-bats. Robbie Ray has thrown the ball well this season, but still owns a 38.5 percent hard contact rate over 94.1 innings against righties.

Outfield

Andrew McCutchen, PIT at SD ($4,200) - I will follow Travis Wood to the ends of the earth when it comes to DFS. The newest member of the Padres rotation has failed to reach 10.0 DraftKings points in each of his three starts this season, and carries an ERA approaching 7.00 over 41.2 innings. McCutchen has dominated his opposite hand this season, tallying a .356 ISO in 73 at-bats.

Ben Gamel, SEA vs. NYM ($3,900) - Gamel has been one of my favorite DFS assets this season. He holds an 18.0 RAA against the fastball, and can frequently be rostered for less than $4,000. Meanwhile, Rafael Montero owns a 5.09 xFIP and an 11 percent walk rate against lefties.

Brett Gardner, NYY vs. TB ($4,600) - Gardner has notched an 11.7 RAA against the fastball to go along with a .225 ISO against right-handed pitching. Austin Pruitt was dominant in his time with Triple-A Durham this season, but hasn't found success with the big club, surrendering 22 earned runs in 31.2 innings (one start).
