FanDuel MLB: Thursday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Thursday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Ty Blach, SF vs OAK ($7,300) – Blach has settled nicely into the rotation sporting a respectable 3.88 ERA at home that's supported by a 1.28 WHIP. He's only given up three home runs in 65 innings at AT&T Park this season and the A's present a very good matchup. They are in the bottom third of the league as far as wOBA on the road against lefties (.314), and their 24.8% strikeout rate is the fourth worst in the league. Blach has also shown some consistency as of late, recording at least 25 fantasy points in five straight starts.

Catcher

Evan Gattis, HOU vs TB ($3,000) – Gattis is always worth consideration against a lefty despite having only a .324 wOBA against them this season (.363 vs righties). Last season's .366 mark against southpaws is a better indicator of his potential and tonight's matchup against Blake Snell is attractive. Snell has struggled against right-handed hitting this season, allowing a .354 wOBA.

First Base

Mike Napoli, TEX at MIN ($2,800) – Napoli has been disappointing from the batting average standpoint this season (.202), but the power has been there as evidenced by his 22 home runs. Adalberto Mejia, a left-handed pitcher, will be opposing Napoli making this a good matchup for the latter. As usual, Napoli is hitting better against lefties this season with a .334 wOBA, and his career mark sits at .385. Mejia, on the other hand, is giving up a .345 wOBA at home this season to right-handed hitters.

Second Base

Ian Kinsler, DET at BAL ($3,100) – This is a good price for Kinsler, who is still one of the better fantasy players at the position. It seems like a good idea to get at least one Tiger into the lineup tonight considering the matchup with Chris Tillman. He's giving up a .403 wOBA to right-handed hitters this season and Kinsler has a .337 wOBA away from home.

Shortstop

Corey Seager, LAD at ATL ($3,600) – Looking at the lefty-lefty matchup for Seager will make most owners shy away from him tonight, but he actually has reverse splits this season. Seager has a .417 wOBA against left-handed pitching this season and Sean Newcomb isn't an elite prospect to worry about. In fact, Newcomb's worst splits are at home against lefties this season (.374 wOBA). Shortstop is incredibly thin tonight due to bad matchups for the top players, making this a spot to spend up on.

Third Base

Rafael Devers, BOS vs CWS ($3,100) – Devers has hit the ground running since his call-up, reaching base safely in all seven of his games while scoring at least 9.2 fantasy points in each. He's been moved into a good RBI spot in the middle of the Red Sox order, and the matchup is excellent tonight against Miguel Gonzalez. His worst splits are on the road against left-handed hitters where he's surrendered a .394 wOBA.

Outfield

Enrique Hernandez, LAD at ATL ($2,100) – Hernandez allows for a lot of salary cap relief at this price and he's always in play against a southpaw. This season he sports a .406 wOBA against that handedness. Newcomb is giving up a .340 wOBA to right-handed batters at home this season and Hernandez has a triple and two home runs over his last 22 at-bats.

Jesse Winker, CIN at PIT ($2,100) – This is a case of playing the hot hand given that Winker comes into this one homering in back-to-back games. He was hitting a solid .314 at Triple-A before his call-up and has gotten regular playing time over the last week. Winker will face off with Chad Kuhl, who is allowing a .382 wOBA to left-handed hitters this season.

Jim Adduci, DET at BAL ($2,100) – Adduci is definitely a gamble given his lack of success but also hasn't been getting consistent playing time. He hit in the second spot Wednesday and should be in the same spot today against Tillman. The key here is Tillman, who has been downright awful this season to all hitters as mentioned earlier. However, he's been the worst against lefties, giving up a .424 wOBA and Adduci gets a park upgrade playing at Camden Yards tonight.
