DraftKings MLB: Friday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Friday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

Pitcher

Brad Peacock, HOU vs. TOR ($10,300): Peacock will head back to the rotation less than a week after moving to the bullpen, as Lance McCullers was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a back injury. Peacock has excelled regardless of his role this season, as evidenced by the 2.62 ERA and 32 percent strikeout rate he has notched over 24 games (11 starts). The Blue Jays rate as a bottom-10 team against righties according to wOBA, and hold the lowest RAA in the league against the slider, a pitch Peacock throws nearly 36 percent of the time.

Ivan Nova, PIT vs. SD ($7,800): Nova allowed four runs over five innings in his last start against the Padres in San Diego, but it's worth noting that the 30-year-old has logged a 2.83 ERA at home as opposed to a 4.42 mark on the road. The Padres have tallied the second lowest RAA against the curveball, a pitch Nova throws at a 21 percent clip.

Catcher

Christian Vazquez, BOS vs. CWS ($4,500): Vazquez will be the team's starting catcher for one more day while Sandy Leon recovers from a knee issue, and appears to have drawn a nice matchup as a parting gift. The 26-year-old has logged a .194 ISO against lefties this season and holds a career 17:12 K:BB against his opposite hand over 103 at-bats. Carlos Rodon is a pitcher best known for producing a great number of walks and strikeouts. He has surrendered 12 runs in just 15.2 innings on the road.

First Base

Buster Posey, SF vs. ARI ($3,600):Anthony Banda hasn't had much luck at any level of professional baseball in 2017. The 23-year-old has tallied a 5.13 ERA over 107 innings at Triple-A Reno and was tagged for four runs in 5.2 innings in his only start with the big club last month. Meanwhile, Posey has logged a .248 ISO and a 34 percent hard contact rate against righties over 101 at-bats.

Second Base

Josh Harrison, PIT vs. SD ($3,500):Travis Wood threw the ball well in his first start as a member of the Padres, but still owns a 6.42 ERA over 29 games (four starts). Harrison, who has logged a .193 ISO against southpaws this season, has not started since injuring his leg in the contest, but the fact that he was able to pinch-run Wednesday provides hope that he will be able to return for this matchup. If Harrison is out once again we can pivot to Jed Lowrie ($3,500), who will take his 37 percent hard contact rate against righties into what is likely to be a bullpen game against Troy Scribner and the Angels.

Third Base

Joey Gallo, TEX at MIN ($4,600): Gallo has been unconscious at the plate lately, homering four times in his last three games to bring his ISO to .346 over 98 contests this season. Fortunately for DFS players, Bartolo Colon and his fastball (-25.4 RAA) do not appear to be leaving the mound anytime soon.

Shortstop

Eduardo Escobar, MIN vs. TEX ($4,200): Escobar is always worth a look against lefties due to the .225 ISO and .374 wOBA he has logged across 89 at-bats. Martin Perez has struck out just 12.5 percent of the right-handed hitters he has faced this season while allowing a 38 percent hard contact rate.

Outfield

Gerardo Parra, COL vs. PHI ($4,800): Parra has quietly achieved fantasy relevance this season, notching a .200 ISO and a 38 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching. Vince Velasquez has seen a sharp drop in his strikeout rate on the road, where he has surrendered five homers in 28.2 innings.

Aaron Altherr, PHI at COL ($4,900): Opposing starter Kyle Freeland has struck out just 47 right-handed batters in 94.2 innings this season, which has contributed to a 5.04 xFIP. Altherr has registered a .273 ISO and a 39 percent hard contact rate against lefties over 88 at-bats.

Marwin Gonzalez HOU vs. TOR ($4,500):Cesar Valdez's fastball has registered a -8.0 RAA in just 27.1 innings (three starts). This sets up nicely for Gonzalez, whose 22.4 RAA against the heater clocks in as the sixth highest mark in the league among hitters with at least 150 plate appearances.
