FanDuel MLB: Saturday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Dan Straily, MIA at ATL ($7,400): The Braves have a major-league low .263 wOBA and 58 wRC+ against right-handed pitching at home over the last two weeks, along with a 25.7 percent strikeout rate and 26.5 percent hard contact rate. Straily already stymied the Braves over 6.1 innings at SunTrust Park on June 16 to the tune of 53 fantasy points, and scored 30 against them in another start earlier this season. Prior to a rough night at Globe Life Park in his last road start, Straily had posted 31 and 41 fantasy points, respectively, in his prior two outings outside of Marlins Park.

CATCHER

James McCann, DET at BAL ($2,400): McCann owns a .450 wOBA, .343 ISO, 30.0 percent HR/FB rate and 42.6 percent hard contact rate against southpaws, while Orioles starter Wade Miley has allowed a .377 wOBA (including 16 homers) and a 34.6 percent hard contact rate to right-handed hitters. He also has an 8.68 ERA and has surrendered a .408 wOBA and 38.1 percent hard contact rate over his last six starts. What's more, McCann has been on an extended hot streak, slashing .381/.443/.556 and posting a .428 wOBA since July 1.

FIRST BASE

Mike Napoli, TEX at MIN ($2,800): Twins starter Kyle Gibson has surrendered a .379 wOBA, 35.7 percent HR/FB rate and 40.9 percent hard contact rate to right-handed hitters at home, while Napoli has 15 homers, a .214 ISO and a 37.5 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching overall. He's also hit Gibson hard in the past, already having taken him deep twice in nine plate appearances. Twins relievers have also yielded a .331 wOBA (including four homers) to right-handed hitters at home in the last month, furthering Napoli's case.

SECOND BASE

Carlos Asuaje, SDP at PIT ($2,100): Asuaje has a .447 wOBA, .240 ISO and 32.4 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching on the road, while Pirates starter Gerrit Cole has allowed a .344 wOBA (including 13 homers) and 39.2 percent hard contact rate to lefty bats. Asuaje has shown some nice GPP upside in his brief stint in the majors as well, having eclipsed 25 fantasy points twice and 30 once within the last 15 games.

THIRD BASE

Jedd Gyorko, STL at CIN ($2,800): Gyorko has cooled off some after a hot start to the season but still sports a .334 wOBA against right-handed pitching. Reds rookie starter Luis Castillo has shown plenty of potential, but he's been vulnerable to right-handed hitters, allowing a .353 wOBA and 33.3 percent HR/FB rate to that handedness at Great American Ballpark.

SHORTSTOP

Marwin Gonzalez, HOU vs. TOR ($3,400): Blue Jays starter Marco Estrada has a 7.86 ERA and has allowed a .394 wOBA in 52.2 innings over his last 11 starts, while the switch-hitting Gonzalez boasts a .429 wOBA and .280 ISO versus righties, as well as a 29.4 percent HR/FB rate and 35.6 percent hard contact rate against them at home. Blue Jays relievers have been vulnerable to either handedness, allowing a .340 wOBA to lefty bats and .383 wOBA to right-handed hitters on the road in the last month.

OUTFIELD

David Peralta, ARI at SFG ($3,400): Peralta draws an appealing matchup against right-hander Chris Stratton, who's surrendered a .486 wOBA to left-handed hitters in a modest sample. Peralta owns a .354 wOBA and 35.9 percent hard contact rate versus right-handed pitching, and eight of his 10 homers this season have come off righties as well.

Kevin Pillar, TOR at HOU ($2,500): Pillar has seen a notable price drop due to some struggles, but he's been heating back up as of late. Pillar has 25.2 and 18.2 fantasy points, respectively, in two of his last four, and posting a .349 wOBA to open August. Astros starter Charlie Morton has yielded a .348 wOBA to right-handed hitters, along with a 35.7 percent hard contact rate when facing them at home. Astros relievers have also given up a .329 wOBA and 33.3 percent hard contact rate to righty bats at home in the last month.

Derek Fisher, HOU vs. TOR ($2,700): Estrada has allowed a respectable .318 wOBA to left-handed hitters, but that figure includes nine homers surrendered. He also has a 5.47 ERA and has allowed a .339 wOBA in 74 road innings overall, while Fisher owns a .412 wOBA, .256 ISO, 37.5 percent HR/FB rate and 50.0 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching over a 49-plate appearance sample. Blue Jays relievers have yielded a .340 wOBA on the road in the last month as well.
