FanDuel MLB: Tuesday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Tuesday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Jose Quintana, CHC at SF ($8,600) – Before his last start Quintana had been masterful, allowing three or fewer runs in 10 straight starts. During that span he'd been striking out over a batter per inning and gets the benefit of pitching in one of the best pitcher's parks tonight. At home against left-handed pitching the Giants have the second worst wOBA (.265) and the worst ISO (.097) in baseball. Quintana also has the advantage of not having faced the Giants yet this season, a situation that typically favors the pitcher.

Catcher

Brian McCann, HOU at CHW ($2,700) – McCann historically has hit right-handed pitching better, but this season has been a different story with him displaying reverse splits. He owns a .356 wOBA against left-handed pitching and faces off against Derek Holland tonight. Holland has given up a .346 wOBA at home this season, a number that should get worse against a potent Houston lineup.

First Base

Joey Gallo, TEX at NYM ($3,400) – It's tough to bet against Joey Votto ($4,300) tonight given that he has homered in three straight games. However, Gallo is a more economical choice and has already gone yard 30 times this season. He's got five home runs in his last six games and gets rookie Chris Flexen tonight. In 12 innings pitched at the big-league level, Flexen has allowed two home runs and only struck out four batters.

Second Base

Yangervis Solarte, SDP at CIN ($2,500) – Solarte gets a big bump from the park factor tonight playing in Cincinnati rather than at home in San Diego. Solarte's best splits are on the road against right-handed pitching, where he has a .353 wOBA. Sal Romano has struggled at home this season, where in a limited sample he has given up a .387 wOBA.

Shortstop

Tim Anderson, CHW vs HOU ($2,400) – This pick will be a contrarian one give Anderson's matchup with Dallas Keuchel. This is a case where the numbers line up for Anderson, who has his best splits at home against southpaws, carrying a .348 wOBA. On the other side of this matchup Keuchel has his worst splits on the road against right-handed hitters, including five home runs in 35 innings of work.

Third Base

Jedd Gyorko, STL at KC ($2,700) – The price has come down on Gyorko and tonight seems like the right time to take advantage of it. He's hit lefties better this season and his wOBA against them sits at .394 when on the road this season. Jason Vargas is a soft-tossing lefty who has allowed a .321 wOBA to right-handed hitters over the course of his career.

Outfield

Albert Almora, CHC at SF ($2,000) – Almora is a nice bargain at the minimum price tonight and gets a favorable matchup against Ty Blach, a left-handed pitcher. Most flock to Kris Bryant when they see the Cubs against a southpaw but Almora has been a stud against that handedness as well. Bryant boasts a .404 wOBA against lefties, but Almora is right behind him with a .399 mark. He becomes an even better choice if Joe Maddon has him hitting towards the top of the lineup.

Domingo Santana, MIL at MIN ($3,400) – Santana seems to get lost in the shuffle playing alongside Eric Thames and Ryan Braun, but he's putting together a solid season with 18 home runs and a .275 batting average. He's hit left-handed pitching better than right-handed pitching, sporting a .372 wOBA against that handedness. Adalberto Mejia has given up a .355 wOBA at home this season to right-handed hitters, making this a good spot in which to use Santana.

Steve Pearce, TOR vs NYY ($3,400) – Pearce is a notorious lefty killer with a .363 wOBA against them for his career. CC Sabathia will toe the rubber for the Yankees tonight and not surprisingly has struggled more against right-handed hitters than lefties this season. Sabathia has given up eight earned runs over his last two starts (10.1 innings), showing he may be fatiguing down the stretch. Pearce also has good history against Sabathia, going 7-for-25 with two home runs and a .917 OPS, adding to his appeal tonight.
