FanDuel MLB: Thursday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Thursday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER:

Troy Scribner, LAA vs. TEX ($6,000): Scribner will make the spot start Thursday against a Rangers squad that's posted just a .297 wOBA and that's struck out at a 24.2-percent clip against right-handed pitching on the road in the last three weeks. Scribner scored 30 fantasy points in his last start in the majors against the Orioles on Aug. 9, and has been solid overall in his four appearances with the Angels this season. While he's strictly a tournament play, he offers a significant savings on a short slate that's bereft of value arms.

CATCHER:

Chris Gimenez, MIN at CWS ($2,400): White Sox southpaw Derek Holland has an 11.65 ERA and a .445 wOBA allowed over his last six outings, and he's allowed a .410 wOBA (including 25 homers), 5.98 xFIP and 41.5 percent hard contact rate to righty bats this season. Gimenez offers decent pop for his price and has a .340 wOBA over his 28 plate appearances in August. Meanwhile, White Sox relievers have a 10.47 ERA and have allowed a .481 wOBA to right-handed hitters at home in the last three weeks.

FIRST BASE:

C.J. Cron, LAA vs. TEX ($3,000): Cron has hit southpaws well, posting a .366 wOBA, .333 ISO, 28.6 percent HR/FB rate and 34.2 percent hard contact rate. Rangers starter Martin Perez has allowed a .368 wOBA (including 17 homers), a 5.21 xFIP and 36.8 percent hard contact rate to right-handed hitters, and he has a 6.43 ERA and has allowed a .352 wOBA over 49 second-half innings.

SECOND BASE:

Scooter Gennett, CIN vs. CHC ($3,000): Cubs starter Jake Arrieta has been vulnerable to left-handed hitters, especially on the road, where he's surrendered a .358 wOBA (including nine homers). Gennett has hit 19 of his 22 homers off righties on his way to a .393 wOBA, .274 ISO, 25.3 percent HR/FB rate and 38.4 percent hard contact rate versus that handedness. Cubs relievers also have a 5.11 ERA and have allowed a .357 wOBA (including four homers) to left-handed hitters on the road in the last three weeks.

THIRD BASE:

Jedd Gyorko, STL vs. SDP ($3,200): Gyorko owns a .335 wOBA versus right-handed pitching at home, while Padres starter Luis Perdomo has yielded a .361 wOBA, 30.0 percent HR/FB rate and 32.6 percent hard contact rate to right-handed hitters outside of spacious Petco Park. Meanwhile, the Padres bullpen has a 6.31 ERA and has allowed a .390 wOBA, including nine homers, to right-handed hitters on the road over the last 21 days.

SHORTSTOP:

Eduardo Escobar, MIN at CWS ($3,100): The struggles of White Sox starter Derek Holland and Chicago relievers against left-handed hitters were detailed earlier, while the switch-hitting Escobar boasts a .373 wOBA and .268 ISO versus southpaws on the road. He also has a successful history against Holland, posting a .556 average over 10 plate appearances.

OUTFIELD:

Howie Kendrick, WAS at HOU ($3,000): Kendrick has been successful against Astros southpaw Dallas Keuchel in past encounters, posting a .444 average over 18 plate appearances. Kendrick also boasts a .440 wOBA, .262 ISO, 33.3 percent HR/FB rate and 43.1 percent hard contact rate versus left-handed pitching. Keuchel has been very tough on right-handed hitters overall, but has a 5.26 ERA and .366 wOBA allowed over 25.2 second-half innings.

Nicky Delmonico, CWS vs. MIN ($2,900): Delmonico has thrived against right-handed pitching thus far, especially on the road, where he's compiled a .544 wOBA, .480 ISO and 50.0 percent hard contact rate over a modest sample. Meanwhile, Twins starter Jose Berrios has allowed six homers, a 5.29 xFIP and 31.6 percent hard contact rate to lefty bats.

Albert Almora, Jr., CHC at CIN ($2,400): Almora offers some cheap right-handed exposure to Reds starter Sal Romano, who's allowed a .475 wOBA, 2.70 HR/9, 5.55 xFIP and 40.5 percent hard contact rate to righty bats at Great American Ballpark. Almora has a .352 wOBA over his 41 August plate appearances, and a .330 wOBA and 42.9 percent hard contact rate against righties over that span.
