DraftKings MLB: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Charlie Morton, HOU at LAA ($8,900): Morton should be able to limit damage against the Angels with his extreme ground-ball rate, as they have hit the ball on the ground at a clip better than 47 percent. The Halos sport a bottom-10 wOBA against righties this season, while Morton's curveball ranks as one of the best in the league among pitchers who have thrown at least 100 innings (11.2 RAA).

Dan Straily, MIA vs. SD ($8,000): Straily has registered significantly above-average marks with his fastball and slider, two pitches the Padres carry bottom-3 RAAs against. It should also be noted that San Diego has tallied the second-lowest wOBA in the league against right-handers while striking out a quarter of the time.

CATCHER

Alex Avila, CHC at PHI ($3,600):Aaron Nola had his start pushed back to Monday, leaving DFS players an opportunity to exploit a pitcher in Nick Pivetta who has notched a minus-11.0 RAA with his fastball. Avila has logged an 8.1 RAA against the heater this season and has done his best work against righties, as evidenced by the .231 ISO he has tallied over 238 at-bats.

FIRST BASE

Jose Abreu, CWS vs. DET ($4,500): Abreu has made his mark against lefties in 2017, notching a .288 ISO and .461 wOBA against his opposite hand over 118 at-bats. Meanwhile, Matt Boyd has allowed a .519 slugging percentage to right-handed hitters while surrendering a hard contact rate of 39 percent in 77.2 innings.

SECOND BASE

Jose Ramirez, CLE vs. KC ($4,200): Scheduled starter Danny Duffy was placed on the disabled list with an elbow injury, leaving Eric Skoglund to pick up the slack in his absence. Skoglund has been a starter in name only in his last two appearances for the big club, securing just 10 outs over that span while allowing six runs. Ramirez has had his worst calendar month in August, but he still carries a .184 ISO against southpaws.

THIRD BASE

Freddie Freeman, ATL vs. COL ($4,900): Positional flexibility is our friend in the matchup against Jon Gray, who has been hammered to the tune of a 5.72 ERA on the road this season. Meanwhile, Freeman has impressed against right-handed pitching, logging a .319 ISO and .454 wOBA over 226 at-bats.

SHORTSTOP

Wilmer Difo, WAS vs. NYM ($3,400): Difo represents a tremendous value play against lefties thanks to the .204 ISO and .417 wOBA he has tallied over 54 at-bats. Tommy Milone has been playing home run derby with right-handed hitters this season, as he has allowed 12 long balls in just 27.2 innings.

OUTFIELD

Giancarlo Stanton, MIA vs. SD ($5,700):Clayton Richard was back to his old self after tossing a complete-game shutout against the Phillies on Aug. 16, as he allowed three homers over just 5.2 innings in his last outing against the Cardinals. He has surrendered a .532 slugging percentage against righty hitters this season. Lefties have received the brunt of Stanton's incredible power surge, as he has has notched a .449 ISO in 98 at-bats against his opposite hand.

George Springer, HOU at LAA ($5,300):Ricky Nolasco has kept a reverse platoon split this season, allowing a .608 slugging percentage against righties over 69.2 innings. Springer has a .251 ISO to go along with a 40 percent hard contact rate in 319 at-bats against same-handed opposition.

Max Kepler, MIN at TOR ($3,800):Joe Biagini started the season off strongly, but he failed to post an ERA under 5.88 through 44 innings in June and July, which resulted in his demotion to Triple-A Buffalo. Kepler has been a sneaky good play against righties this year because of the .232 ISO he has over 332 at-bats.
