FantasyDraft MLB: Thursday Values

This article is part of our FantasyDraft MLB series.

PITCHER

Zach Davies, MIL vs. WAS ($16,400): I don't think any of the higher-end pitchers are worth it, so Davies is my top pick. He's been consistent even if the price doesn't show it, allowing one run or less in five of his last six starts. Davies has also reached double-digit fantasy points in 11 of his last 12 outings. The Nationals don't have good numbers against righties in August with a .300 wOBA and 22.1 K%.

CC Sabathia, NYY vs. BOS ($14,400): Sabathia is by no means a safe play, but he's shown he can still deal once in awhile with 22 fantasy points in his last start against the Mariners. He also has Boston's number in three meetings this year, giving up just two runs in 20 innings. The Red Sox are below average in the past month against lefties with a .320 wOBA.

INFIELD

Steve Pearce, TOR at BAL ($6,300): The Blue Jays struggled to hit anything in their last series, but that should change against Baltimore's pitching. Jeremy Hellickson comes in having allowed 15 runs in his last three starts to go with only eight strikeouts. Pearce is on the same cold streak as his teammates, but still sports a solid .365 wOBA in his last 73 plate appearances against righties.

Tim Beckham, BAL vs. TOR ($9,600): It's hard not to like Beckham given his small price due to consistency with a .443 wOBA and .253 ISO against righties in August. He's also hit safely in his last nine games and 14 of his last 15. Marco Estrada conveniently has worse numbers against righties with a .361 wOBA allowed and 5.50 xFIP.

Manny Machado, BAL vs. TOR ($10,800): With Estrada's numbers being so bad against righties, I might as well take another one. Machado brings a little more power with a .368 ISO to go with a .428 wOBA in his last 97 plate appearances against righties. Estrada had a few good outings, but has given up 12 runs and 20 hits in his last three starts.

OUTFIELD

Albert Almora Jr., CHC vs. ATL ($6,400): At this point, Almora only starts against lefties so might as well use him against a weaker pitcher. Almora's numbers have dropped off, but he still has a .353 wOBA in his last 38 plate appearances against lefties. Sean Newcomb is putting up solid numbers, yet remains hard to trust after giving up four runs last start. He also gave up five runs and eight hits to the Cubs back in July. Newcomb's 5.33 xFIP against righties doesn't help against Almora, either.

Christian Yelich, MIA vs. PHI ($8,800): If you don't want to spend on Giancarlo Stanton, Yelich is another way to go. His numbers remain solid against righties with a .416 wOBA and .250 ISO in his last 87 plate appearances. Ben Lively isn't getting shelled every start, but does have a .374 wOBA allowed and 5.80 xFIP against lefties.

Denard Span, SF vs. STL ($6,800): Span doesn't have outstanding numbers against righties, but he still has been better with a .333 wOBA in his last 66 plate appearances. This is more of a play against Michael Wacha, who struggles a ton against lefties with a 4.52 xFIP.

UTILITY

Rhys Hoskins, PHI at MIA ($9,000): Hoskins has been incredible since joining the team on Aug. 10. His price remains fairly low despite being on an 11-game hitting streak and recently coming off a stretch of eight homers in nine games. Hoskins has a .464 wOBA and .417 ISO in his last 52 plate appearances against righties and Odrisamer Despaigne has a 5.90 xFIP against righties.

Joe Panik, SF vs. STL ($6,900): Panik is one of the few lefties on the San Fran roster that can turn Wacha's bad pitching into runs. Panik sports a .408 wOBA and .256 ISO in his last 44 plate appearances against righties. As for Wacha, he's given up at least seven hits and four runs in each of his last three starts.
