Yahoo DFS Baseball: Monday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

PITCHER

Jose Berrios, MIN at TB ($47): You could go with one of the high-end pitchers like Jake Arrieta ($52) or Carlos Martinez ($52), but Berrios provides just as much upside, if not more, and is a few bucks cheaper. Berrios has 27 strikeouts in his last three starts with only 10 hits allowed. The Rays rank near the bottom of the league against righties since the beginning of August with a .307 wOBA and 23.8 percent K rate.

Rafael Montero, NYM vs. PHI ($29): This is a slight risk, but could be worth it due to Montero's low salary. The hope is that he finds the success he had last time out when he went 8.1 innings and struck out eight at Cincinnati. That good of a start isn't likely, but he's still pitching better than he was early in the year and gets the Phillies, who have a .306 wOBA and 24.8 percent K rate against righties over the last month.

CATCHER

Bruce Maxwell, OAK vs. LAA ($7): Maxwell has turned it up with a couple of homers (one against Angels pitcher Parker Bridwell) in his last three starts and should return to the lineup after sitting Sunday. A .407 wOBA and .250 ISO in his last 39 plate appearances against righties also helps. Bridwell was roughed up for seven runs in his start against the A's last week and has a bad 5.54 xFIP against lefties.

FIRST BASE

Edwin Encarnacion, CLE at CWS ($22): Not many can top what Encarnacion has done in the last few weeks against righties with a .518 wOBA and .524 ISO over 55 plate appearances. Making this selection even easier is the fact that James Shields on the mound, who regularly gives up at least three runs and has walked 10 batters in his last three starts.

SECOND BASE

Ian Happ, CHC at PIT ($14): Happ is destroying righties at the moment with a .544 wOBA and .600 ISO in his last 36 plate appearances. Chad Kuhl made it 5.1 innings while giving up three runs last week against the Cubs, a game in which Happ didn't play. If Happ plays this time, Kuhl is much worse against lefties with a .375 wOBA allowed and 5.25 xFIP.

THIRD BASE

Jose Ramirez, CLE at CWS ($14): Ramirez is still a bit cheap given his great matchup. He comes in with a .379 wOBA and .342 ISO in his last 41 plate appearances against righties and that doesn't include Sunday's five hits and two homers. Shields has struggled all season against lefties, sporting a .424 wOBA allowed and huge 6.36 xFIP.

SHORTSTOP

Brandon Crawford, SF at COL ($19): Here's another guy with a hot bat, at a decent salary and in a good spot. Crawford has a .492 wOBA and .364 ISO in his last 62 plate appearances against righties and now gets to hit at Coors Field. Chad Bettis has given up 10 runs and 13 hits in his last two starts and has a 4.69 xFIP against lefties.

OUTFIELD

Brandon Nimmo, NYM vs. PHI ($7): For my bargain play, Nimmo comes in hitting righties at a solid rate with a .351 wOBA in his last 54 plate appearances. Mark Leiter has been inconsistent for the Phillies and has a mediocre 4.29 xFIP against lefties.

Howie Kendrick, WAS at MIA ($17): Kendrick has a nice .443 wOBA and .333 ISO in his last 30 plate appearances against lefties, which includes recent meetings against Adam Conley. Kendrick went 3-for-6 against Conley in two August matchups in which the southpaw gave up 18 hits and seven runs.

Christian Yelich, MIA vs. WAS ($17): Outside of homers, Yelich has kept pace with Giancarlo Stanton as seen in his .419 wOBA and .254 ISO in his last 68 plate appearances against righties. A.J. Cole was named the starter late Sunday and while he hasn't been terrible through five starts for the Nationals, he still has a bad 6.67 xFIP against lefties.
