Yahoo DFS Baseball: Monday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

PITCHER

Aaron Nola, PHI vs. WAS ($45): Nola has been somewhat all over the place in the last month, but he's put together some nice starts and has 27 strikeouts in his last three outings. One of those included a trip to Washington in which he struck out eight batters in 5.1 innings. The Nationals also have a low .293 wOBA and high 23.6 percent K rate in September against righties.

Zack Godley, ARI vs. SF ($44): Since I don't like any of the cheaper pitchers, I'll go with another high-end righty in Godley. While he struggled against the Padres last time out, he was on a 19-start run of reaching at least 13 fantasy points prior to that. Against the Giants, he should get back to form as San Fran has a .284 wOBA and 23.0 percent K rate against righties since Sept. 1.

CATCHER

Travis d'Arnaud, NYM vs. ATL ($11): There's always the chance Kevin Plawecki ($8) starts, so keep an eye on that. I'm comfortable with grabbing either catcher against Max Fried. The lefty hurler doesn't have many starts, but in his limited time has terrible numbers against righties (9.0 IP) with a .448 wOBA allowed and 6.29 xFIP.

FIRST BASE

Yulieski Gurriel, HOU at TEX ($16): Gurriel has turned it up the past few weeks and comes in at a nice price against a beatable pitcher. In his last 47 plate appearances against righties, Gurriel has a .413 wOBA and .244 ISO. Andrew Cashner has pitched well against the Astros in his last couple of starts, but gave up 12 runs in three outings earlier in the year. Gurriel has been solid against Cashner, going 4-of-9 against him with a couple of doubles.

SECOND BASE

Miguel Rojas, MIA at COL ($10): Despite having a tear in his rotator cuff, Rojas has continued to hit well in the last week, so I'll hope that continues. His .386 wOBA against righties in his last 52 plate appearances stands out along with his price. Tyler Chatwood is having a decent season, but has been much worse at Coors Field with a .385 wOBA allowed.

THIRD BASE

Rafael Devers, BOS vs. TOR ($11): Due to recent success including nine hits in his last five games, Devers's average is back above .300 for the season. His .532 wOBA against lefties (last 32 plate appearances) also puts him in a good spot to do more damage. Brett Anderson gave up eight runs last start and has been worse against lefties, albeit in limited time against them. He has a .457 wOBA allowed against them in 7.0 IP.

SHORTSTOP

Johan Camargo, ATL at NYM ($9): There aren't many Atlanta bats I want to use, but because of his price, Camargo is on my radar. He's also sporting a nice .374 wOBA in his last 31 plate appearances against righties. On the mound, Seth Lugo has been unreliable and has much worse numbers against lefties with a .347 wOBA allowed and 4.71 xFIP.

OUTFIELD

Nelson Cruz, SEA at OAK ($18): Not many have been better than Cruz in the last month against righties with a .481 wOBA and .327 ISO (59 plate appearances). Daniel Gossett gave up six runs to the makeshift Tigers last start and has a .367 wOBA allowed against righties this season.

Kole Calhoun, LAA at CWS ($15): Justin Upton ($21) is a more logical place to go, but since James Shields has issues with lefties, Calhoun is my pick. Shields has given up 15 hits and seven runs in his last two starts, and more importantly has a .395 wOBA allowed and 5.97 xFIP against lefties.

Ian Desmond, COL vs. MIA ($9): It's been a rough season for Desmond, but he's shown some life in the last few weeks with a .351 wOBA in his last 43 plate appearances against righties. And while his K rate is high (27.9 percent), that shouldn't be a problem against Odrisamer Despaigne, who struggles to strike out anyone and has a low 12.5 percent K rate against righties.
