FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

The 14-game slate today is broken up between the early games starting at 12:35 EST and the seven "late" games for the main slate starting at 7:05 EST. The Coors game takes place at 3:10 EST, so depending on your preference for it that may or may not be disappointing.

PITCHER

Patrick Corbin, ARI at LAD ($10,000): It's not a stretch to take the highest-priced pitcher on the slate, but Corbin has built himself both a nice floor and ceiling so far this season. He's scored at least 34 fantasy points in each of his seven starts and has games of 61 and 68 fantasy points mixed in there as well. He comes into Wednesday with four straight quality starts and has yet to allow more than three earned runs in a game. The Dodgers have a couple of right-handed bats to worry about – Chris Taylor (.355 wOBA against LHP last season) and Enrique Hernandez (.390 wOBA) – but as a team the Dodgers have the fourth-worst mark in the league at .293.

GPP Fade: Gio Gonzalez, WAS at SD ($9,000): Gio will be a popular pick tonight, coming in $1,000 cheaper than Corbin and having a seemingly great matchup. However, the Padres have actually been good this season against left-handed pitching at Petco with a .330 wOBA (11th-best in the league). Throw in a .196 ISO against lefties at home (sixth best in the league) and Gio could find himself in a surprisingly tough spot tonight.

Cheap GPP Consideration: Julio Teheran, ATL at TB ($7,400): Teheran has his ERA down to 3.65 after a rough start and has scored 37, 43, 49 and 52 in four of his last five starts. The Rays haven't seen Teheran before, a situation that usually favors the pitcher, and as a team Tampa has the fifth-worst ISO (.124) in the league against right-handed pitching. When looking at strikeout percentage and wOBA, the Rays rank around league average in both stats against righties.

CATCHER/FIRST BASE

Carlos Santana, PHI vs SF ($2,900): Santana is swinging one of the hottest bats in the league right now, and based on his stats, his slow start can basically be attributed to bad luck. He has a 1.014 OPS over the last week and has a career .350 wOBA against right-handed pitchers. Chris Stratton in a small sample gave up a .365 wOBA on the road to left-handed hitters last year.

SECOND BASE

Jonathan Schoop, BAL vs KC ($2,700): Schoop returned from his DL stint Tuesday and immediately found himself in the cleanup spot against a lefty. That should be the case once against Wednesday and it's an even better matchup against Eric Skoglund (6.84 ERA). Last season Schoop raked against lefties with a .397 wOBA in 166 plate appearances.

THIRD BASE

Anthony Rendon, WAS at SD ($3,400): With Matt Adams and Bryce Harper going nuts over the last week, Rendon should fly under the radar. Last season he was lethal against southpaws, holding a .461 wOBA against them, and his career mark sits at a lofty .375. After a hot start Joey Lucchesi has a 5.17 ERA over his last three outings, giving up four home runs in only 15.2 innings.

SHORTSTOP

Manny Machado, BAL vs KC ($4,500): With no starting pitcher over $10K and given the slate of games, there's a strong argument to be made that Machado is the top player at any position Wednesday despite the high price. Over the previous four seasons he had wOBAs of .372, .403, .402 and .386 against left-handed pitching in Camden Yards. Skoglund hasn't been very effective, and even in cash using an Orioles stack (Adam Jones and Mark Trumbo are both $2,800) may be the way to go.

OUTFIELD

Jorge Soler, KC at BAL ($3,500): Soler has been on fire over the last few weeks, scoring at least 9.2 fantasy points in 11 of his last 13 games with four performances of at least 28.1. Andrew Cashner relies on his fastball, which should play into Soler's hands, and he gets a park upgrade at Camden Yards over playing in Kaufman Stadium.

Nelson Cruz, SEA at TOR ($3,700): Teammate Mitch Haniger (.416 wOBA against lefties) is in this conversation as well, but Cruz has a longer history of success against left-handed pitching. He'll take on Jaime Garcia tonight in Rogers Centre, an upgrade as a hitter's park on Safeco. For his career Cruz has a .391 wOBA against lefties, and his .421 mark this season suggests he's not slowing down any time soon.

UTILITY

Kendrys Morales, TOR vs SEA ($2,400): Morales has a solid .337 wOBA against left-handed pitching for his career, but those numbers have been even better over the last two seasons at .420 and .392. He gets Wade LeBlanc tonight at home and still has a high ceiling despite early-season struggles (see his 52.4 fantasy-point performance on May 1). Don't be afraid to use Josh Donaldson ($4,000) at third base in cash either, with Rendon being more of a GPP play.
