Ross, like Bruce Bowen, has found minutes in the league strictly for his defensive capabilities. Unlike Bowen, Ross doesn’t shoot the rock particularly well from any range, and injuries limited him to just 52 games last season. He’s seen his minutes drop significantly over the past two seasons since leaving the Clippers (one of the rare cases when a player’s career worsens after leaving the Clips). He averaged a paltry 1.5 PPG in 2009.
Ross spent the first five seasons of his NBA career with the Clippers and Grizzlies and comes to Dallas sporting a career scoring average just above four points. While the Mavs hope his career three-point percentage of 34.6 will help them spread the floor, Ross will be utilized more as a defensive specialist.
Ross is strictly a defensive specialist for the Clippers, and holds no fantasy value. The presence of rookie Al Thornton could also eat away at Ross' playing time, and he should not be considered in any fantasy format.
Ross does the dirty work for the Clippers. He will help chew up minutes off the bench and is an excellent perimeter defender. He doesn’t score very often though.
Ross will start the season on the bench. He is, however, athletic as they come and a more than capable defender. Ross could end up contributing, on some level, as the season progresses.
An undrafted rookie with marginal upside. Greatly improved in each of his four college years. Very athletic but a relative unknown.
