ANALYSIS
It was initially reported that the two sides had agreed to terms of a buyout, but the team actually cut Carroll in the end. The 32-year-old has career marks of 6.6 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 0.7 three-pointers in 16.5 minutes per game, output he has been unable to match since the 2007-08 season. He'll provide guard depth and nothing more wherever he ends up signing.

Carroll is a savvy veteran with an excellent jump shot. He is a career back up guard who is mainly in the game to shoot the ball from the outside. Look for him to come in and give the other guards rest and to give a decent scoring spurt when needed.
Carroll has been a bench player for the most part in his career and will provide the Bobcats with a reliable veteran shooter off of the bench. However, he won’t play enough to warrant fantasy consideration.
Acquired last season from Charlotte, Dallas hoped Carroll would contribute as a long-ball threat, only to see him make just one three-pointer in 21 games in a Dallas uniform. While he remains a 40 percent shooter from behind the arc for his career, he is not a reliable option for fantasy owners.
Carroll’s ability to score off the bench and drill three-pointers comes in handy. He’s a career 41-percent shooter from three-point range, so he will have a role despite not being very quick or a good defender. He and Adam Morrison bring the same skill-set and look to carve out minutes in coach Larry Brown’s rotation.
He signed a six-year, $27 million deal in the offseason and is set as the team's sixth man and primary offensive threat off the bench. He's coming off his best season, averaging 12.1 points while shooting 41.6 percent from 3-point range. He could be a 15 ppg scorer this year and a candidate for Sixth Man of the Year.
Carroll may be the team’s best 3-point shooter and with the depth on this club, that will be his primary role.
Carroll's three-point shooting and ball handling should be enough to keep him in the mix. He didn't offer much percentage-wise, but he did average nine points per game and scored in double figures in eight of his final 12 games last season. His playing time will be sparse, but if he gets hot in camp, Carroll could log some early minutes as the number two shooting guard. But don't bet the farm on that, though.
