Archie Goodwin

At 22 years old, Goodwin is still probably a few years away from hitting his prime, yet he’s already accumulated 150 games of NBA experience in his three seasons in the league. Goodwin has shown incremental statistical improvement in each campaign, but it wasn’t until 2015-16 that we received a legitimate look at him in a regular starting role over an extended period of time. When Eric Bledsoe, Brandon Knight and Ronnie Price were all sidelined with injuries midseason, Goodwin assumed full-time duties at point guard and shined during a 14-game stretch from Jan. 21 to Feb. 22, averaging 16.4 points, 3.9 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.0 three-pointer in 34.4 minutes per game. Those plentiful counting stats during that time made Goodwin an asset in most leagues, but his poor efficiency -- he shot 39.7 percent from the field and 28 percent from downtown and averaged 3.6 turnovers per game during that span -- was ultimately his undoing, as he fell out of the rotation by late March. With Bledsoe and Knight expected to be fully healthy to begin the season and the Suns adding two players this offseason with point guard experience in veteran Leandro Barbosa and promising rookie Tyler Ulis, Goodwin is expected to spend most of his time off the ball in 2016-17. While Goodwin has youth working for him, he’ll need to vastly improve upon his career percentages from the field (41.9%) and beyond the arc (22.7%) if he hopes to hack it as a shooting guard and earn consistent playing time in his fourth NBA season.
