The New Orleans Pelicans play host to the Los Angeles Lakers, at Smoothie King Center on Wednesday evening. The Pelicans (30-26) have won two straight, as they continue to hang on without DeMarcus Cousins. They hold on to the eighth spot in the West, 0.5 games ahead of ninth, but only 1.0 game out of fifth. This marks the first game back home after a three-game road trip, where the Pelicans won two-of-three games. They are 14-12 at home this season but have lost their last three at home. Anthony Davis continues to do all he can to lead New Orleans, as he averages 27.1 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 2.1 blocks and 1.3 steals per game this season. He came up huge in the Pelicans two most recent wins, with 44 points one night and 38 the next night. Rajon Rondo has also played well lately, including a triple-double with 25 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds on Saturday in their win in Brooklyn. The Pelicans average 110.8 points per game, which is fourth highest in the league, however their defense is a problem in that they allow an average of 111.1 points against, which is second worst in the league. Meanwhile, the Lakers (23-32) sit 11th place in the West, 6.5 games behind the Pelicans. This marks the second game of a three-game road trip for the Lakers, after coming off a loss in Dallas on Saturday. The Lakers are 9-18 on the road this season. Lonzo Ball (knee) is expected to remain sidelined until after the all-star break. Isaiah Thomas showed well in his first outing with the team, as he poured in 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting, in 31 minutes off the bench. Brandon Ingram averages 16.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game, while Julius Randle has picked up his game lately, averaging 19.4 points on 58 percent shooting and 9.1 rebounds over his last 10 games. The Lakers give up an average of 15.5 turnovers per game, which is second worst in the league. They play a high-scoring game, averaging 107.0 points per game and allow opponents an average of 109.5 points per game.
