ANALYSIS
The 35-year-old has been out of the NBA since 2012-13, so it was fully expected that Stevenson's playing days were over. The former first-round pick spent 13 seasons in the league with the Jazz, Magic, Wizards, Mavericks, Nets and Hawks. Stevenson averaged only 7.2 points over 824 career games, but earned a reputation as a defensive stopper on the wing. He was able to claim his only NBA title as a member of the Mavericks in 2010-11.

Stevenson has bounced around during his career and is pretty much a bench player at this point. With the Hawks having so many younger options at both shooting guard and small forward, Stevenson won't play significant minutes and doesn't have much fantasy value.
Stevenson was considered a throw-in in the blockbuster deal with the Wizards but ended up starting five games for Dallas. However, when the team is healthy, Stevenson is too far down in the pecking order to be considered a suitable fantasy option.
Stevenson will be affected significantly by the trade for Foye and Miller. He should no longer be the Wizards' starting shooting guard and will struggle to get minutes. He'll see occasional run as a hustle and energy guy, and he'll also be out there for three-point shooting.
Stevenson was counted on to produce while Arenas was sidelined last year, but didn’t do much. He shot a horrid 38.6 percent from the field -- which mirrored his average from three, 38.3 percent. Hopefully his poor shooting was an aberration, and he'll get back to his 2006-07 averages of over 40 percent behind the arc and over 46 percent from the field.
Stevenson was a nice surprise for fantasy owners late last season. Signed primarily for his defensive prowess – and as a lower-cost alternative to Jared Jeffries – Stevenson stepped up his offense when the Wizards were hit by injuries to Caron Butler, Antawn Jamison and Gilbert Arenas. Stevenson posted a productive scoring average of nearly 14 points with 1.5 threes per game over the last 32 games of the year. But don’t use those numbers to set a new baseline expectation for Stevenson – he won’t score like that when Washington’s big three are healthy, and this year he’ll be competing with rookie Nick Young for playing time. He also doesn’t have numbers to back up his defensive reputation – just 2.6 boards and one combined block/steal per game last season.
Stevenson is penciled in as a starter along with Gilbert Arenas, Caron Butler, Antawn Jamison and either Brendan Haywood or Etan Thomas. Though he has more offensive upside than Jared Jeffries, whose spot he is essentially taking, as the Wizards' fourth option when he is on the court, he is not going to be a major fantasy factor. He's been at or around 11 ppg three of the last four seasons, and figures to chip in a few boards and assists per game, but he's only an option in deep leagues as long as the Wizards' top scoring weapons are healthy.
Deshawn Stevenson could start or be a sixth man for several teams in the league, but the Magic have a crowded backcourt. As it stands, Stevenson is stuck behind Francis on the depth chart and doesn't have the point guard skills to steal minutes at the point. If Nelson and Dooling have trouble defending opposing point guards, the Magic may be forced to start Stevenson and Francis. In that scenario, Stevenson could surprise and it should be noted that he improved his three point shooting last season going from 29% the year before to 37% last year.
Yet another crucial season for Stevenson, who has not delivered on any of the promise he held when drafted in 2000 out of high school. He’s got the inside track as the starting 2-guard, and had a good session at the Rocky Mountain Revue. His 38.6 career field goal percentage is scary, but he’s in a position to get a lot of minutes.
