Mason was waived by the Kings on Thursday, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
The buyout was expected, and now the wait begins for another opportunity. However, his meager averages -- three points (on 37.3 percent shooting), 0.9 rebounds, and 0.8 assists in 10.4 minutes -- in 25 appearances are unlikely to spur much interest.

The grizzly veteran, the 32 year old Mason was brought in to provide leadership and be an offensive reserve. While appearing in 52 games for the Wizards, Mason averaged 5.5 ppg while shooting over 38% from behind the arc and a hair below 40% from the field. Mason will be used in small ball situations and sets where the Hornets are looking for shooting. For leagues that emphasize deep shooting, the winner of minutes between Henry and Mason can be a key fantasy player.
Three years ago Mason averaged two three-pointers per game. Since then his numbers and minutes have dropped sharply. Mason was brought back to the Wizards for his professionalism and experience. He won’t be anything more than a 10th man on this team and provides little fantasy value.
Mason comes over from the Spurs to provide backcourt depth. He’s probably second or third in line for minutes at both guard spots – not an ideal place to be, given Mike D’Antoni’s traditionally-short rotation. But he could become an important player if one of New York’s other guards is injured – in the past, Mason has put up very good numbers when subbing for the likes of Gilbert Arenas and Tony Parker.
Mason emerged as a three-point wonder last season, connecting on 42.1 percent of his shots from behind the arc and nailing 2.0 threes per game. However, a healthy Ginobili and a newly acquired Jefferson will certainly slice into Mason's minutes this year, decreasing his value. He'll still be a nice source of threes, but he's the type of player who has more value in head-to-head leagues than roto, because he's too much of a non-factor in the other categories.
Mason was acquired from the Wizards in the off-season. Mason will be 28 at the start of the season and brings a blend of youth and experience to the leagues' oldest team. Mason averaged 9.1 points per game and shot nearly 40 percent from the 3-point line. Mason should be able to provide depth at several positions from point guard to small forward.
Mason, who averaging 2.7 points and 0.7 rebounds in 7.9 minutes per game last season with the Wizards, will reprise his reserve role with the team.
Battling for last spot on the Wizards' bench.
Mason, part of the Jalen Rose trade, showed occasional flashes when he got a chance to play last year, and averaged four points a night in 12.6 minutes per game with Toronto. The Raptors’ back court is too crowded to afford Mason many opportunities to show what, if anything, he’s capable of however – Mason could start the year as low as fifth or even sixth on the shooting guard depth chart.
Mason will be buried on the bench should he stick with the team this season.
