Anthony Morrow

After playing in 74 games for the New Orleans Pelicans last season, Morrow was signed by the Thunder to a three-year, $10 million deal during the offseason. The sharpshooter played 19 minutes per game for the Pelicans and posted averages of 8.4 points, 1.8 rebounds, 0.8 assists, and 1.2 three-pointers made. Morrow had his best three-point shooting season since his 2009-10 campaign with the Golden State Warriors, connecting on 45 percent of his attempts in 2013-14. Still, there's healthy competition for minutes on the wing in Oklahoma City, so it remains to be seen how much court time Morrow will receive. If he soaks up enough minutes, he could be a decent source of three-pointers, as he's bound to get plenty of open looks while playing alongside Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.

Morrow played 41 games in 2012-13 for the Dallas Mavericks and Atlanta Hawks. A potent three-point shooter, Morrow played just sparingly for both of his teams last season, especially the Mavericks. This season, he'll have to outplay Rivers and Miller to earn any consistent playing time.

It seems Morrow is good for at least one eye-popping game per season to capture the attention of fantasy players. Such was the case on February 3 of last season, when Morrow scored 42 points while shooting an unconscious 8-of-11 from three-point range. Once again, hopes that the game represented a breakthrough for Morrow went for naught, as he managed just 11 points while shooting 4-for-12 shooting from the field the very next game. Morrow has demonstrated that he’s one of the game’s most prolific shooters, owning a career three-point percentage of 42.6 and an equally impressive 89.7 career free-throw percentage. After two seasons with the Nets, the Georgia Tech alum returns to his college town to play for the Hawks, who feature a deep mix at guard that includes Jeff Teague, Devin Harris, Louis Williams, rookie John Jenkins, and another long range artist in Kyle Korver at small forward. If the Hawks opt to go with a small ball lineup, it’s reasonable to think Morrow will get more run at small forward, with Korver coming off the bench. It may take coach Larry Drew until the first half of the season to find what guard rotation works best, but Morrow’s status as an elite shooter should work in his favor. What could work against Morrow as a fantasy player are the limitations elsewhere in his game. He averaged 2.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 0.7 steals in 26.4 minutes per game last season, all of which are decidedly below-average numbers for a shooting guard receiving that much floor time.

Morrow is an efficient gunner who's always a threat to knock down a three-ball. He'll remain the third scoring option regardless of Lopez's final destination, but could see even more open looks if New Jersey acquires Howard, as he garners greater attention in the low post. He's improved his scoring average each of the past three seasons, and his FT percentage is now at near-elite levels. As close to a sure thing as it gets on this team.

If ever Warriors coach Don Nelson's frustrating antics were personified, it's in the person of Anthony Morrow. Fantasy owners will undoubtedly remember November 15th, 2008, as that was the night that Morrow – in only his fourth professional game – scored 37 points and brought down 11 rebounds. Those who rushed to pick him up, however, know that only five games later, at Boston, Morrow was a "DNP - Coach's Decision." That was typical of Nellie's treatment of Morrow during the latter's first and, to a lesser degree, second year in the league. Early this July, however, Morrow was traded to the Nets, where he's likely to take up starting duties. His strength, as it has been for his first two years in the league, promises to be three-point shooting. Morrow averages 2.3 makes a game on 46.0 percent shooting from behind the arc – among the NBA's best figures in that time span.

Morrow has developed into one of the league’s most proficient three-point shooters, leading the league in three-point percentage last season at a 46.7. It’s tough to predict precisely what his role will be this season given coach Don Nelson’s erratic rotations, but Morrow should be in store for at least 24-25 minutes per game. Beyond that, Morrow would need an injury to open up a spot in the starting lineup to become a significant factor for fantasy teams. Morrow was rock solid in 16 starts last season, averaging 15.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.1 steals and 2.1 treys in 34.4 minutes on 46.7-percent shooting from the field, 44.7 percent from three, and 86.3 percent from the free-throw line. Morrow is an excellent late-round target who you can substitute into your starting lineup when he is hot and stash on your bench when he cools down.
