ANALYSIS
The Bucks inked Henry to a training camp deal at the end of August, but decided to part ways with him after only three weeks. Formerly one the top players in his class coming out of high school, Henry is attempting an NBA comeback after spending most of 2015-16 in the D-League. Henry, the No. 12 overall pick in the 2010 draft, last appeared in nine games for the Lakers in 2014-15.

Xavier Henry is entering his fifth season in the NBA and posted career highs in all fantasy relevant categories last season. He averaged 10.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.0 steals, 0.2 blocks, and 0.7 three-pointers in 21 minutes per game through 43 games. Henry also shot career-best percentages, going at 42 percent from the field on 8.0 attempts and 66 percent from the line on 4.1 attempts. The major limiting factor in his production was his health, however. Henry sustained injuries to his knee and wrist last season and has yet to play more than 50 games in a season in his NBA career. With a new coach in Byron Scott, Henry will playing for his third coach in three seasons and will be looking for minutes on the wing behind Kobe Bryant, Nick Young, and Wesley Johnson. A former lottery pick, Henry showed an improved mentality in regard to distributing the ball, increasing his assist percentage from 3.2 percent to 8.8 percent, as he ran the offense at times last season. From a fantasy perspective, Henry's ability to contribute is limited due to the players above him on the depth chart, but if injuries beset Bryant, Young, or Johnson, Henry is a sneaky scoring threat that will likely be available on the waiver-wire.
Henry's output during the 2012-13 season was meager to say the least. He averaged just 3.9 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 0.3 assists in 12.5 minutes per game over 50 games. Henry has yet to find his role in the NBA, as he has bounced in and out of rotations during his three-year career. While he seems to be over the wrist injury that he had been battling for a few weeks, Henry is likely to see his minutes decline as Wesley Johnson gets healthier and Kobe Bryant returns sometime down the road.
Acquired in January and playing in 45 total games last season (including an NBDL stint), Henry came around in New Orleans and looks to add a scorer’s touch off of the bench and contribute as part of the youth movement. Playing 17 minutes per game, Henry averaged 5.3 ppg and 2.3 rpg while developing a stroke (.412 3pt%, .395 fg %). At 21, Henry still has much time to develop and with his shooting, he can be a valuable asset and key backup moving forward.
Injuries tarnished Henry’s rookie season after the Grizzlies selected him 12th overall in the 2010 Draft, and a right knee sprain ended his season in February. Henry exhibited a good shot from beyond the arc in college, but he sunk only two three-pointers in the NBA en route to a 4.3 ppg average. Henry could miss the first month of the season with torn ligaments in his right ankle, so it might take him some time to carve a niche in the Grizzlies’ guard rotation, but he could take on a larger role in the offense if/when O.J. Mayo departs.
The Grizzlies may have drafted Henry 12th overall with Rudy Gay’s possible departure in mind, but the fact that Gay will stay in Memphis will allow them to bring Henry along a little bit slower. He nailed 69 three-pointers in 36 collegiate games for the University of Kansas last year and was considered one of the better shooters in the draft. His long wingspan should help him play defense in the NBA, which could help him gain minutes during his rookie year. He should get time at both the two and three this year, but O.J. Mayo’s and Rudy Gay’s respective locks on those slots will keep Henry from having too big of an impact this year.
