His numbers had been steadily declining since his top year of '98-'99, but the last two years have shown he has almost nothing left in the tank. His 27 starts last year indicated that Detroit still thinks he has something left, but with Rasheed Wallace, Antonio McDyess, and Derrick Coleman around, Campbell's days of being a fantasy sleeper are over.
Campbell likely enters the year as Detroit's starting center, although he will be pushed for minutes by Mehmet Okur, Darko Milicic, and Zeljko Rebraca. Assuming he holds onto the starting job, Campbell will probably average eight or nine points per game, and five or six rebounds. If one of the other three starts at center, Campbell could be pushed to the end of the bench, far away from new coach Larry Brown.

Campbell was something less than thrilled to be claimed off waivers by New Jersey. "Once I got over the initial shock and anger, I came back to reality and thought, 'This is what I do. This is part of the job,'" Campbell told NorthJersey.com. "I'm just going to go ahead and get back to work."
