FanDuel NBA: Value Plays of the Week

FanDuel NBA: Value Plays of the Week

This article is part of our FanDuel NBA series.

Every week, this article will take a look at players who are undervalued and should be in your lineup. These are players who should exceed their value in fantasy points when looking at their cost. These players could be at the minimum or near minimum of $3,500 or could be in the $7-$8,000 range. It's easy to peg players like LeBron James or Anthony Davis but the key is to find value players to plug in with them.

Point Guard

Greivis Vasquez, $3,900 – It was a little surprising to see how under-owned Vasquez was Tuesday night after getting the start and plenty of minutes against the Lakers on Sunday. Vasquez, while in a very fantasy-friendly matchup, finished that game with 19 points, five assists and a steal. Clearly, he's one of the best value plays at this price, provided he continues to see around 30 minutes of floor time per game. Look for his price to rise soon, but until then, start building your cash game lineups with this dirt-cheap option.

Mo Williams, $5,600 – Williams has taken advantage of his opportunity in Minnesota with all the injuries the team has had and been one of the better values of any position in daily fantasy. He had something of a dud Monday in a tough matchup against Chris Paul, yet still managed 21.9 fantasy points. He's had over 21 fantasy points in seven straight games, and three of those were over 35 fantasy points. Williams has done an excellent job distributing the ball, averaging 9.4 assists during those seven games, and he scored in double-digits in six of the games. He's a safe play at this price and will be when it inevitably goes up.

Shooting Guard

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, $4,700 – KCP flies under the radar playing with fantasy darlings Josh Smith, Brandon Jennings and Greg Monroe. OK, part-time fantasy darlings for the latter two. Caldwell-Pope is playing all the minutes he can handle at the two, recording 35 minutes or more of playing time over his last three games. He's found his scoring touch with the additional time, going 11-for-23 from three-point land over that time period. There's no reason to think his playing time will diminish any time soon, and he'll continue to get open outside looks playing with Drummond and Monroe.

Small Forward

K.J. McDaniels, $4,700 – So much has been made about how much the injury to Tony Wroten boosts Michael Carter-Williams' value that McDaniels seems to have gotten a little lost in the shuffle. McDaniels has seen a nice bump in minutes since the injury and produced across the board. He's scored double digits in three straight games while averaging over nine rebounds during that span. McDaniels has blocks in four straight games, and perhaps the most important stat is that he's played at least 30 minutes in three straight games. The price won't stay here long, so take advantage while you can.

Power Forward

Kris Humphries, $4,100 – The injury to Nene Hilario has thrust Humphries into a starting role for the Wizards although he hasn't seen a big uptick in minutes. Humphries has quietly had a solid season (even with the second unit) scoring 16.5 fantasy points or more in eight of his last 10 games. Hilario's injury isn't supposed to be serious, but again, Humphries was already producing with the second team. Don't be afraid to look his way as a punt play if the matchup looks good (i.e. the Lakers on Wednesday).

Center

Tyler Zeller, $3800 – With the struggles of Kelly Olynyk, the Celtics have inserted Zeller into the starting lineup the last two games. Zeller saw a slight increase in minutes in his first start, logging 23. He finished the game with seven points, 10 rebounds and a block, solid numbers from an efficiency standpoint. It's unclear if the Celtics will keep their starting five intact for now or go back to Olynyk if he works himself out of his slump. Either way, Zeller is one of the best values at the position and getting a couple of more easy buckets with more court time with Rajon Rondo doesn't hurt as well. Brother Cody Zeller, (power forward, $3,800) is worth a look as well if Marvin Williams is out or if he retains his starting role.

Kyle O'Quinn, $4500 – An ankle injury derailed O'Quinn after the first few games of the season, but now, he appears to be completely healthy. O'Quinn has shown some upside in the past as both a shot blocker and on the glass working with the Magic's second team. He got the surprise start Tuesday night when Nikola Vucevic was scratched with back spasms at the last minute. While that injury isn't considered to be serious, any additional time puts O'Quinn in play as a cheap upside play.
