FanDuel NBA: Sunday Value Plays

FanDuel NBA: Sunday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel NBA series.

There are eight games being played on Sunday, but two of them are early in the afternoon. This article will only touch on the six games that start at 6:00 p.m. EST and after.

Point Guards

Isaiah Thomas, BOS at ORL ($7,300): When sorted by fantasy points per game, Thomas is the least expensive of the options averaging more than 30, making him the most inexpensive elite point guard on the board. He also has a good match-up against a Magic defense that is allows the sixth-most fantasy points to opposing point guards.

Isaiah Canaan, PHI at MEM ($4,300): Making this an all-Isaiah grouping, Canaan joins Thomas as good value for Sunday. He's played well of late, averaging about 25 fantasy points per game over his last four outings, two of which have been as a starter. He also has a solid match-up against a Grizzlies team that allows the ninth-most fantasy points to opposing point guards.

Kyle Lowry, TOR vs. PHX ($8,600): Bonus coverage: Lowry is the most expensive point guard on the board, but he's also the most productive. And he's fifth overall in salary for Sunday, more than $2,000 less than the highest-priced options, so he's reasonably affordable. To top it off, he's facing a Suns team that allows the most fantasy points per game to point guards.

Shooting Guards

James Harden, HOU at NYK ($10,700): Harden is the highest-priced player on the board and it doesn't even matter. He's gone absolutely bonkers since Kevin Mchale was fired as head coach, averaging 58.5 fantasy points over his last five games, including one "bad" game where he scored 38.7, two games in the mid-upper 50s, a 63.8-point effort and one with 78.1. The Rockets are playing terrible basketball right now, Harden has been getting bad publicity after McHale was fired and he seems to be playing maniacally to try to win. Whatever the motivation, this kind of production is Russell Westbrook-with-Kevin Durant-injured territory and that usually costs in the $12,000-range.

Avery Bradley, BOS at ORL ($6,200): Bradley has been a strong fantasy producer since moving back into the starting lineup for the injured Marcus Smart (knee), but he's done it in a unique way. He's scoring about 20 points per game, but he has also averaging 2.7 steals over his last six. Throw in three boards and two assists per game, and Bradley's a consistent 30-fantasy points player these days.

Small Forwards
Robert Covington, PHI at MEM ($6,300):
Paul George has been going nuts lately and gets to face a terrible Lakers defense with the Lakers on the second half of a back-to-back. Also, Carmelo Anthony is very likely to get into a shootout with James Harden at Madison Square Garden, making him a good bet to blow up. That said, Covington gets the nod because he's been producing very well at a good value. He has averaged 19.5 points, 8.3 boards, 4.8 steals, 3.5 treys and 1.0 blocks in 35 minutes per game over his last four. On Sunday, he faces a Grizzlies defense that allows the 10th-most fantasy points to small forwards.

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, BKN vs. DET ($4,100): Hollis-Jefferson has averaged 30.5 fantasy poinst per game over his last four, with a low of 25.7 and a high of 34.4. That's excellent value for his price, and also shows good consistency. He's on the second-half of a back-to-back, but he's a young guy who should have energy even on short rest.

Power Forward
Jared Sullinger, BOS at ORL ($6,100):
Sullinger has been a monster on the glass lately, grabbing 15 boards in two straight contests. On Sunday he faces an Orlando defense that starts Channing Frye at the power forward slot, so there's a good chance that Sullinger should do great glass-work for a third straight game.

Center
Bismack Biyombo, TOR vs. PHX ($3,600):
Biyombo joins Ian Mahinmi ($5,000) and Clint Capella ($4,600) as affordable, athletic big men who are getting starters' minutes and have shown that they can produce. But Biyombo is at least $1,000 cheaper than the others, making him the better value. He has been playing more minutes due to Jonas Valanciunas' injury, and has three straight games with at least 12 boards (averaging 14 rebounds per game in that stretch).
