Yahoo DFS Basketball: Sunday Picks

Yahoo DFS Basketball: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Basketball series.

Sunday's seven-game NBA slate begins at 3:30 p.m. EST. Read on to see which players to target and which to avoid.

GUARD

Lou Williams, LAC at NO ($40): Williams has flashed tremendous upside recently, topping 70.0 fantasy points twice in his last four games. He has a golden opportunity to once again fill up the box score in points, assists and steals against a Pelicans team that allows the second-most PPG (28.0) and third-most APG (6.0) to shooting guards. New Orleans also will be without DeMarcus Cousins (Achilles), so two-way stalwart Anthony Davis can't take as many risks defensively given his massive responsibilities on the other end.

Jordan Clarkson, LAL at TOR ($26):
Clarkson's flourished with extended playing time the last four games, averaging 43.1 fantasy points in 34 minutes per game. That level of production makes the combo guard an incredible value at $26 regardless of opponent. Roll him out with confidence, even against a talented Toronto backcourt.

Guard to Avoid:

Ben Simmons, PHI at OKC ($37): As is the case with most rookies, Simmons has had trouble finding consistent success away from home. In five of his last eight road appearances, Simmons has mustered no more than 26.1 fantasy points. Another subpar performance should be expected against the league's best defense when it comes to limiting point guard production (34.5 fantasy points allowed per game).

FORWARD

Tobias Harris, DET at CLE ($25): Cleveland struggled to defend power forwards even when the Cavaliers were clicking, as the team allows a league-high 46.4 fantasy points per game to the position. Things have gotten much worse during their recent struggles, however, with power forwards racking up 53.5 fantasy points per game in the last 10 and 60.8 in the last five. Harris is locked into a significant role at the position with 33 minutes per game this season, and that should be enough to provide strong value in this highly favorable matchup.

Wesley Johnson, LAC at NO ($12):
Johnson is another Clippers wing who's provided tremendous value recently, as he's topped 30.0 fantasy points in four of his past six games while playing more than 31 minutes per contest over that span. New Orleans has been stingier against small forwards than shooting guards, but Johnson's combination of role and production makes him a can't-miss value at just $2 above the minimum. Johnson's well-rounded style also means he's not too reliant on any one category for his value – he just scored 34.0 fantasy points in his last appearance despite putting up only three points.

Forward to Avoid:

LaMarcus Aldridge, SA vs. SAC ($42): Aldridge has cooled off recently, scoring fewer than 24.0 fantasy points in two of his last three appearances and fewer than 27.0 in half of his last eight. In addition to the risk of him playing poorly in regular minutes, there's also a good chance San Antonio runs out to a huge lead against an awful Kings team at home and keeps Aldridge glued to the bench most of the second half.

CENTER

Greg Monroe, PHO at HOU ($16): Monroe's been an effective fantasy producer when called upon and is finally getting the chance to strut his stuff as the last healthy Suns center left. He's averaged 30.7 fantasy points per game in three games since Alex Len (ankle) went down and should remain an effective option even if Tyson Chandler (illness) returns Sunday. Monroe's playing time window isn't likely to stay open long, so take advantage while you still can.

Clint Capela, HOU vs. PHO ($29):
Monroe isn't the only player likely to benefit from Phoenix's thinness at center. Knicks big man Enes Kanter abused the Suns for 20 points and 10 rebounds Friday, and Capela's averages of 14.4 PPG and 10.7 RPG are both superior to Kanter's similar marks. Capela's also played at least 26 minutes in each of his last seven games, so playing time shouldn't be an issue regardless of game flow.

Center to Avoid:

Andre Drummond, DET at CLE ($47): While Drummond will be motivated to succeed by what he believes to be an All-Star Game snub, doing so will be difficult against a Cavaliers team that allows a league-low 32.6 fantasy points per game to centers, including just 18.3 over the last five. Drummond isn't immune to this defense's effects, as illustrated by the season-low 19.1 fantasy points he scored in his only other meeting with the Cavs this season.
