When Will Online Casinos Launch in Maine?
Real-money online casinos in Maine could launch as early as July 15, 2026 after Governor Janet Mills has allowed bill LD1164 to become law. This date is not confirmed, only the earliest date casino gaming online could go live.
- The launch date is subject to a 90-day period post Legislature adjournment, or when legislature ends its session.
- The current session began on January 7, 2026 and is expected to adjourn April 15, 2026.
- 90 days post-April 15 gives us a date of July 15 for online casinos in Maine to officially go into law.
- Rules will be finalized post-July 15, making the launch date closer to this fall in September or October.
Who Will Hold Maine Online Casino Licenses?
There will be four Wabanaki Nations holding the online casino gaming licenses in Maine. Those four tribes are:
- Penobscot Nation
- Aroostook Band of Micmacs
- Passamaquoddy Tribe
- Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians
Each of the four tribes above can partner with a single licensed operator.
What Online Casinos Are Expected to Launch in Maine?
With the partnership between Maine and the Wabanaki Nations, the online casino framework is setup similar to sports betting in the state. Currently, the four Wabanaki Nations partner with two operators: DraftKings and Caesars.
The four tribes have one license each to offer at a fee of $50,000 per license. While nothing has become official, DraftKings Casino and the Caesars Palace Casino would be the likely two front runners to receive a license to operate mobile casino apps in the state.
Expect others such as FanDuel, BetMGM, and Fanatics to all attempt to receive a license as well, among many other licensed U.S. online casinos.
