2018 Rotowire FanDuel Fantasy Football Championship – Week 2

Welcome to the second week of the NFL season and the RotoWire Football Championship hosted by FanDuel.

I’m happy that the first week of the NFL season is behind us. I hate the first week when it comes to picking players for fantasy football and that was indicative on how well I did, as I finished a robust 51st of the 55 contestants.

The RotoWire Football Championship is straight forward. We’re running a $10 contest in each of the first 10 weeks of the season, where the top 150 users double their cash. You’ll compete against fellow RotoWire readers as well as three experts: Kevin Payne, Jeff Erickson and Derek Van Riper. Beat all three experts in one week and you’ll earn entry to Week 11’s Free Play championship round. The top 120 players in that round will win a prize, with the first-place contestant coming home with $1,000 and a two-year subscription to RotoWire. You can sign up for this week’s competition here.

Meanwhile, the rest of the experts here at RotoWire will be competing in a parallel contest. Last year, Mike Doria claimed the title, with Tate McIntyre grabbing the silver and Hunter Van Asten coming home with the bronze.
And last week Payne came out on top with 194.04 FanDuel points as Kevin really collected off of the Chiefs-Chargers game where 89.04 points came out of it and you add Saints’ Alvin Kamara (38.6) and James Conner (31.7) equals winning the week.

You can check out the full expert leader board here, but here’s the current top 10:

1. Kevin Payne (kevinccp) 194.04
2. Darin Brown (dabsabre) 182.66
3. Shawn Cwalinski (cwalinski) 181.26
4. Davis Mattek (DavisMattek) 176.14
5. Joe Bartel (alphacool) 176.02
6. Michael Rathburn (burnnotice) 175.52
7. Joel Bartilotta (joelbartilotta) 170.76
8. Michael Gay (phislamajama10) 167.54
9. Jake Letarski (rotojakeski) 166.36
10. Scott Jenstad (oaktownsj) 165.96

RotoWire Baseball Championship – 6th Qualifier

We’re just about to go over the finish line for the final qualifying round of the six-round RotoWire/Fanduel Baseball Championship.

The contest includes the six qualifying rounds, and only you’re best three scores count for the final leaderboard. The top 25 scores on the overall leaderboard will compete for $2,000 and RotoWire subscriptions in the Championship Round on June 27.

Meanwhile, the experts here at RotoWire are competing in our own parallel contest. Isaac Buttke (ibuttke) won the contest two weeks ago with a score of 169.70, led by the Cy Young favorite in the NL in Max Scherzer who gave him a whopping 70 points. Despite registering goose eggs with Colorado’s Geraldo Parra and Seattle’s Ryon Healy, Isaac had consistent bats with the lowest ebb of Mets’ Jay Bruce with 12.2 points to Miami’s Starlin Castro’s 22.2 points.

In the overall standings Erik Halterman (ehalt) has taken over the top spot with 1238 points, but there are five other players who are less than 40 points behind Erik so anything can happen this week where one of them can move up to first place. Brian Pelowski (brianp) and James Anderson (realjranderson) are the closest to first place with 1,219.70 and 1,218.10 respectively for the season. Adam Wolf (rotosomething) who was in first place overall a couple weeks ago has dropped to fourth (1,200), but still can take over the top spot with a good week.

RotoWire Baseball Championship – 5th Qualifier

It’s the stretch run Wednesday night of the RotoWire/Fanduel Baseball Championship.

The contest includes six qualifying rounds, and only you’re best three scores count for the final leaderboard. There are still two rounds remaining, so even if you’re just finding out about the contest today, you’re still very much in the running. The top 25 scores on the overall leaderboard will compete for $2,000 and RotoWire subscriptions in the Championship Round on June 27.

Meanwhile, the experts here at RotoWire are competing in our own parallel contest. Jake Letarski (rotojakeski) won the contest two weeks ago with a score of 135.70, led by a pair of Red Sox in Chris Sale (42 points and Xander Bogaerts (25.7). He received consistent scoring through most of the lineup with Marlins’ Martin Prado (12.4) and Dodgers’ Cody Bellinger (12.2), but he received great value in the utility spot with Dodgers’ Max Muncy with 16 points.

In the overall standings Letarski sits at sixth place while Adam Wolf (rotosomething) holds the top spot (1053), but by only a little more than 27 points ahead of James Anderson (realjranderson) and a little more than 37 points ahead of Erik Halterman (ehalt). In terms of my placement this season, don’t ask. In relative parlance, I have basically hit into the shift almost every week.

RotoWire Baseball Championship – 1st Qualifier

Welcome to the 2018 Major League Baseball season and also another edition of the RotoWire/FanDuel Fantasy Baseball Championship.

This is the first of six qualifiers that will run from April 4 through June 13, giving you six opportunities to land a spot in the championship round, which takes place on June 27 – where you’ll compete for an extra $2,000 in cash prizes plus RotoWire subscriptions. If you finish in the top-25 on the overall leaderboard, you are as good as in the championship contest. Inquiring minds can learn more by clicking here.

Meanwhile, the experts will compete against each other for a separate championship. We will keep track of the results here and come back before each contest to see how you fared against the experts.

When it comes to DFS strategy, why not take advantage of some of RotoWire’s gifts this season? Use tools like the lineup optimizer in conjunction with our daily lineups and weather reports in order to take home the gold. As of this morning, there was a chance of rain in the Seattle at San Francisco game.

RotoWire & FanDuel Fantasy Football Championship – Week 9

Welcome to Week 9 of the RotoWire & FanDuel Fantasy Football Championship and this is a week more about the players on the bye week along with injuries and suspensions than anything else.

For this week there is NO Tom Brady, Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown, three of the top priced FanDuel players basically every week.
And before Thursday this is what I wrote: “Who would ever have thought that Houston Texans’ quarterback Deshaun Watson ($9,600) would be the highest priced player in the contest.”
Well, scratch that because beware Watson is OUT for Week 9 and for the season and that’s how things can change in a minute where the Texans signal caller suffered a right ACL tear during practice. And what did Allen Iverson say about “Practice!!!!,” but Watson knows now what ‘Practice’ is all about and not in a good way.
And in addition to the Watson injury, as of this writing on Friday morning, Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott ($8,900) was suspended for six games. If his people get a stay at the last minute, it will very well change a lot this week including season-long leagues.
But in Daily Fantasy Sports you can change pretty much on a dime even if there is an injury in practice or in the courts for suspensions.

RotoWire & FanDuel Fantasy Football Championship Week 7

Welcome to Week 7 of the RotoWire & FanDuel Fantasy Football Championship as we are just halfway through this season with plenty of winning weeks ahead for everybody.
It was only yesterday when it was the first kickoff for the 2017 season, but now we have plenty of evidence and background to go forward.
And also welcome to life after Aaron Rodgers.
It could have not come at a worse time with the Packers facing a nice enticing opponent in New Orleans.
There is no doubt that some are enticed by taking a flyer on Packers backup quarterback Brett Hundley. But even if he goes off against New Orleans this week, you don’t want to be the one that is left holding the bag and he goes the other way.
For this week a lot of players will be on the Falcons-Pats game for Sunday night with an over/under 56 points. There is no doubt that most of the players in that game will be heavily played, i.e. Pats QB Tom Brady and Falcons QB Matt Ryan.
With that said, if you are unfamiliar with the RotoWire & FanDuel Fantasy Football Championship competition, here are the basics:

– 10-week competition hosted on FanDuel
– $10 entry
– Compete against other users and three FanDuel experts (Jeff Erickson, Derek VanRiper, Kevin Payne)
– Finish above the experts and win an entry in the Week 11 Freeroll with over $4,000 in prizes and RotoWire subscriptions up for grabs
– Each qualifying week acts as a double-up with the top 150 doubling up their cash
– This is not a continuous competition so you can enter every week, and you don’t have to have participated in Week 1 to enter this week’s competition
– You can sign up for this week’s competition here

RotoWire & FanDuel Fantasy Football Championship – Week 5

Welcome to Week 5 and welcome to the Bye Weeks.

For the Daily Fantasy it is not as much of a hindrance as opposed to the year-long fantasy leagues, but there are some Daily Fantasy players who love playing the same quarterback or running back or wide receiver or even kicker and defense.

But for the Fifth Week, there are some choice players that you can’t choose from like a pair of quarterbacks, Falcons’ Matt Ryan and Saints’ Drew Brees. Both who have started out relatively slow, but are considered favorites for Daily Fantasy as well as some of the other Falcons, Saints, Broncos and Redskins.
Along with the choice quarterbacks missing from Week 5 was possibly the highest scoring game of the week that was Thursday between the Bucs and Patriots (update, it was an underwhelming offensive game as it turned out to be).
Along with the Bye Weeks, welcome to Week 5 of the RotoWire & FanDuel Fantasy Football Championship.

If you are unfamiliar with the competition, here are the basics:

– 10-week competition hosted on FanDuel
– $10 entry
