NFL Training Camp Notes- Cooper close to return

With this being the day after the last preseason game, this certainly wasn't the busiest news day of the month. So, it looks like we'll have a quality over quantity day.

• With his ADP having fallen over the past few weeks, Amari Cooper (plantar fasciitis) is expected back at practice next week, which would mean that he's expected to be ready Week 1. With Ezekiel Elliott looking as if he may not be back with the team by then, Cooper will likely be a focal point of the Giants defense. Regardless, if Cooper is healthy, he belongs in fantasy lineups.

• In an expected Week 1 shootout between the Saints and the Texans, coach Bill O'Brien confirmed that Will Fuller is on track to be in the lineup despite not playing in the preseason games. As we've learned over the past couple years, when Fuller's in the lineup, both he and Deshaun Watson have serious upside. It'll be hard to keep Fuller out of fantasy lineups if he's playing unless you have a loaded group of WRs.

• Unfortunately, it's not all good news coming out of Houston- even though Keke Coutee (ankle) is trending in the right direction, coach Bill O'Brien isn't sure his WR will be ready for the first game. That said, fantasy owners may be wise to leave Coutee on their benches, even if he's active, until he gets a game under his belt before trusting him in weekly lineups.

• Although there wasn't big concern, it should be noted that Keenan Allen (ankle) is ready for Week 1. He'll be an automatic fantasy starter, especially after knowing the ankle injury he dealt with was minor, so there's no major risk of him having a setback.

• After hopes were raised when Jerick McKinnon (knee) was set to practice earlier this week, he had yet another setback and he's now expected to be placed on injured reserve. So, what was once a muddled backfield in May is now a duo of Tevin Coleman and Matt Breida, and both could see enough work to earn their ADP. That said, Breida has the lower draft cost, so he's the one who is most likely to blow away his draft value.

• Despite having some positive buzz earlier in training camp, 49ers' rookie Jalen Hurd (back) isn't expected to play in Week 1. Coach Kyle Shanahan went on to say that the injury is more serious than the team thought, and although he's not expected to be placed on IR, he could miss multiple weeks. In addition, it was unclear what his role in the offense was going to be, even if he was healthy. For now, he's merely a late speculative pick in leagues with deeper benches.

• Another knee injury in the news is Bengals' rookie Rodney Anderson, who appears to have suffered an ACL tear to the same knee for the second year in a row. Should that tear be confirmed, that all but ensures that Giovani Bernard will be the main backup (and handcuff) for Joe Mixon.

• Yes, we have kicker news today! Those who drafted Graham Gano in leagues will need to drop him, as he's been placed on injured reserve with a knee injury.

• Finally, Preston Williams had a really strong training camp, and he was able to turn that into a roster spot, as he's expected to be on the 53-man roster to start the season. Although he'll be a backup to start the year, if the Dolphins go with a youth movement, he could find himself seeing regular playing time. He's a player to keep an eye on as the season progresses.

That's all for today, but keep checking out our Training Camp Notes blog, as it will run through next Wednesday.
