Training Camp Notes: BeWare Going West, Jamaal Charles

  • Jamaal Charles is behind schedule from his knee injury and could take a big fantasy hit early in the season. Reading the tea leaves from some Andy Reid quotes yesterday would seem to suggest the Chiefs are fine with the committee of Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West heading into the season and allowing Charles to ease his way back into the fold. During practice this week Ware and West have received the majority of the first team snaps over Charles a telling sign this close to the start of the season. Don't be surprised if come Week 1 Charles isn't much of a fantasy option given the possible lack of touches.

  • With Ladarius Green being placed on the PUP list it appears that Jesse James will take over as the starting tight end for at least the first six weeks of the season. While Green was signed to a huge contract with guaranteed money it did say something about the Steelers confidence in James being a No.1 tight end. Still, James should land on the fantasy radar in a couple of the first six games given the offense and makes for an interesting add in leagues that start two tight ends.
  • Alex Collins is expected to "get a lot of chances" in Thursday night's final preseason game according to coach Pete Carroll. He's probably on the bubble with Thomas Rawls, Christine Michael and C.J. Prosise likely all having roster spots. This is something of an important note if you decide to dabble in preseason DFS tonight; Collins should be on your radar. Teammate Jimmy Graham has been a full participant in practice but will not have played any preseason games heading into Week 1. As a result his status for the tilt against the Dolphins is questionable at this point.
  • Josh Ferguson is not expected to make the Colts' final roster. Many fantasy pundits expected him to not only make the team but at a minimum assume the passing-down role for the Colts. While his pass-blocking has looked extremely subpar his 18 preseason rushes for 13 yards (0.7 YPC) didn't help his cause much. This news boosts the stock vale of Robert Turbin the most especially if he proves he can catch the ball out of the backfield.
