DFS College Basketball: Friday Preview

DFS College Basketball: Friday Preview

This article is part of our DFS College Basketball series.

Today's featured contest on DraftKings has a late afternoon start time, with a $20k first prize in the $15 Pull Up Jumper's seven-game slate. Meanwhile, the largest contest on FanDuel is the $5.55 All-American - beginning at 7 p.m. EST with four games on tap and a $4k first prize.

Targets

Sandro Mamukelashvili, F, Seton Hall ($7,600 DK)

Mamukelashvili was ejected in the first half during Seton Hall's most recent game against Wagner, but he won't be under any disciplinary action for today's contest. Heading into that game he was averaging 36 minutes per game and is clearly the guy the offense runs through. Insert a match-up with St. John's who plays at the 10th quickest pace of any team in the country, and things are set up for Mamukelashvili to be one of the highest scoring players on the slate tonight, despite having just the 11th highest salary on DraftKings.

Joe Wieskamp, G/F, Iowa ($6,800 DK, $6,000 FD)

Wieskamp appears to be under-priced due to only averaging 24 minutes through four games, but Iowa eased into the schedule before playing UNC two days ago – when Wieskamp was one board away from a double-double in 32 minutes. Tonight's game with Iowa St. features the highest over/under on the slate at a whopping 158 points. Outside of Luka Garza in the post, Iowa's offense features mostly three-point specialists and Wieskamp is the most willing to drive to the basket and finish at the rim.

Jalen Coleman-Lands, G/F, Iowa St. ($5,700 DK, $4,400 FD)

Through two games, Coleman-Lands is second on the team in minutes and leads the Cyclones in points at 14.5 per game and usage rate at 27.9 percent of possessions. On top of that, the match-up doesn't get much better than facing an Iowa team that plays at a top-10 percent tempo and is significantly weaker on the defensive end. Usually all these factors gives you a price tag closer to the $7k range. Coleman-Lands also gives you the added bonus of roster flexibility being qualified for both guard and forward positions on DraftKings, while you'll be hard-pressed to find a better value on FanDuel.

Fades

Vince Cole, G/F, St. John's ($7,100 DK)

Cole is coming off a career-high 26 point performance, but Seton Hall will provide a much tougher challenge for the freshman and will look to keep the pace on the slower end. In St. John's two toughest games this season, Cole has combined for just 12 points as he's done a much better job of taking advantage of weaker competition. He's also not going to be a significant contributor in other statistical categories, with multiple assists in just one game and less than five rebounds in four games.

Dawson Garcia, F, Marquette ($6,400 DK, $6,000 FD)

Garcia has had a fine start to his freshman campaign, but from a DFS perspective, he still leaves a bit to be desired. Through five games, he's yet to eclipse 30 minutes in a game and hasn't been able to record a double-double. He's also played considerably worse against tougher competition, shooting just 26 percent against Wisconsin and Oklahoma St., while averaging over 17 points in Marquette's three routs. Garcia's upside will be limited by a UCLA squad that plays at one of the slowest paces of any team in the NCAA.

Jermaine Samuels, F, Villanova ($5,900 DK, $5,100 FD)

Samuels is an efficient player for the Wildcats but the main problem is that he's not involved enough to justify spending around $6k of your salary on. Of the team's starters, he ranks fifth in both minutes played (26.7 per game) and usage rate (15.8 percent of possessions). He's likely not to be a complete bust for your fantasy team, but in GPP contests you're looking for 30+ fantasy points and his margin for error in order to get there is quite low.
