DFS College Basketball: Sunday Preview

DFS College Basketball: Sunday Preview

This article is part of our DFS College Basketball series.

After your NFL lineups are set and you've advanced in the fantasy playoffs, dig into this four-game college basketball main slate on DraftKings, featuring $2k to first place in the $10 Big Jam. Let's take a look at the implied totals before moving on to targets and fades.

Targets

1. Rasheem Dunn, G, St. John's ($4,900 DK)

We'll start with the team with the highest implied total of the day. Sure, Julian Champagnie ($9,000 DK) is a stud worth rostering if at all possible, but how about a cheap backcourt counterpart? Dunn began last season as a reserve but finished with 12.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists over the last 16 games of the season (15 starts). He missed five games this year due to a concussion and came off the bench upon returning, but was back in the starting five Thursday and put up 26.3 DK points. This could ver well be one of the day's easiest paths to 4x.

2. Jordan Goodwin, G, St. Louis ($9,500 DK, $8,400 FD)

Saint Louis doesn't get on the slate much, but their star player is absolutely worth a look given today's tempo boost, as Minnesota plays at the 35th-fastest adjusted tempo in the nation (per KenPom). Goodwin has put up 41.3 DK points/game over his last four, which is good for an average of 4.3x. Without Daniel Oturu around this season, the Gophers have struggled on the glass with a defensive rebounding rate ranked No. 203 in the nation. There's enough value on the slate to pay up for the rebound-heavy wing coming off three consecutive double-doubles.

3. Evan Battey, F, Colorado ($4,100 DK, $4,200 FD)

Battey has started all five games for the Buffaloes, is second on the team (among starters) in usage rate (21.1 percent) and has a stellar matchup on tap. The 1-5 Huskies are ranked No. 313 in the country in defensive rebounding rate, paired with No. 209 on the offensive end. Sure, Battey has had a couple duds against some Power-5 teams earlier this year. But Washington can hardly be considered on that level after already collecting bad losses to UC Riverside and Montana.

Fades

1.Pete Nance, F, Northwestern ($6,900 DK, $5,600 FD)

Nance checks in with the highest price among Northwestern players but just the fourth-highest usage rate among starters. At that price tag, he's hit 4x just once in four games this season. Sunday will bring Nance his toughest matchup of the year, as the Spartans are a top-45 rebounding team on both sides of the court, plus check in at No. 37 in KenPom's defensive efficiency. Most of Northwester is probably a fade, but if you must, try the usage leader Chase Audige for $100 less.

2. Nate Roberts, F, Washington ($6,100 DK, $5,000 FD)

While the sophomore forward is drastically improving his marks from a season ago with increased opportunity, Sunday is not the time to deploy. The Huskies have the lowest implied total of the slate, as Colorado has a top-20 defense paired with a pace outside the top-200. Colorado has plenty of post depth to challenge Roberts, who has also been prone to foul trouble of late.

3. Marcus Carr, G, Minnesota ($8,700 DK, $8,200 FD)

Carr will undoubtedly be the riskiest fade of the day, but he hasn't topped 40 on DK since the calendar turned to December, and now he and the Gophers find themselves with the second-lowest implied total of the day. No surprises there, as Saint Louis is a top-30 defense (per KenPom) with an adjusted tempo that checks in at No. 244. Passing on should allow you to work in Jordan Goodwin ($9,500) and Justin Champagnie ($9,000), and mix that with some of the value plays above, and you have a winning recipe.
