DFS College Basketball: Wednesday Preview

DFS College Basketball: Wednesday Preview

This article is part of our DFS College Basketball series.

Things are in full swing with the college basketball season as we have the largest Wednesday slate with nine games on tap for Draftkings' $10 Big Jam Contest and a $3k first-place payout. Six games are in action for the $4.44 All American on FanDuel, with a $2k grand prize.

Targets

Zach Freemantle, F, Xavier ($7,500 DK, $7,500 FD)

Freemantle is coming off a season-low seven-point performance against Creighton, in which he only played 22 minutes after fouling out. If he's able to avoid foul trouble, he's likely to see around 35 minutes and he leads Xavier in field goal attempts per game. That combination makes him an attractive option outside of the highest-priced players. Freemantle is also an efficient rebounder and a double-double candidate. Seton Hall is an average defensive team that recently allowed 23 points and 11 boards to Providence's Nate Watson. Freemantle could be in for a similar game tonight.

Justin Smith, F, Arkansas ($6,200 DK, $6,100 FD)

The Arkansas/Auburn match-up features the highest over/under on the slate tonight, so it's a good place to start when filling your lineup. Smith has been a force on the glass this season with double-digit rebounds in back-to-back games, and he should have plenty of opportunities again tonight against an Auburn team that has struggled offensively against better opponents. Smith has also been very active in the offense, taking about a quarter of the team's shots when he's on the floor – second on the team behind JD Notae.

Tyrese Martin, G/F, UConn ($5,500 DK, $5,100 FD)

This is a good spot to plug Martin into your lineup at a below average salary against a DePaul squad that likes to push the pace and create more possessions. He's one of the better guard rebounders in the country, averaging nine through three games. Martin has had a bit of a slow start in his first year with UConn after transferring from Rhode Island, but he has seen increased minutes in each game. Being able to play both positions on DraftKings gives you some added roster flexibility as well.

Fades

Moses Wright, F, Georgia Tech ($8,300 DK, $8,000 FD)

It's a difficult spot to use Wright at this salary, even against an opponent that will look to keep the tempo at a quick pace. UNC was able to slow down Iowa's Luka Garza to just 6-of-19 shooting from inside the arc, as they have four rotation players that are 6-10 or taller that will make things tough for Wright. On the flip side, the Tar Heels have struggled to defend the perimeter and Michael Devoe ($6,000 DK, $6,000 FD) could be the biggest beneficiary.

Nate Laszewski, F, Notre Dame ($7,300 DK)

Sometimes it feels like I'm beating a dead horse, but it's hard to advise taking a second-tier salary player against a Virginia team that we know is really good defensively and likes to eat the shot clock. It's no surprise that this is the lowest over/under tonight as a result. Laszewski is a great shooter, but he's a role player that isn't heavily used in the offense. His rebounding numbers provide a decent floor but the upside is limited in a game where Notre Dame may struggle to reach 60 points.

Myles Cale, G/F, Seton Hall ($5,900 DK, $5,300 FD)

Cale is coming off a career-high 30-point game in which he got hot from long-range and couldn't seem to miss. That seems more like an anomaly, but it has increased his salary by $1,500 on DraftKings from his last game. He hasn't recorded more than five rebounds or two assists in a game this season, so his fantasy output is heavily weighted on scoring. This is also a tougher matchup than the one against Georgetown, with Xavier being better defensively while playing much slower.
