Matthews (wrist) is out for the next 4-6 weeks, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.

Matthews played in just two games for Rhode Island before fracturing his wrist -- the injury happened Monday night against Nevada. He recorded 18 points, three boards and one assist before exiting. This is a huge loss for the Rams, as Matthews is one of their better players, and was expected to be a key contributor after averaging 14.9 points per game a season ago.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Matthews (knee) will play in Rhode Island's 'secret' scrimmage against Harvard on Friday, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.

Matthews has progressed well enough in practice to return to the court after sitting out last weekend's exhibition due to mild knee tendinitis. There was never any real concern according to coach Dan Hurley, but it's good to see Matthews back in action prior to the regular-season opener against UNC-Asheville next Friday.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Matthews will not play in the team's exhibition contest against Buffalo on Saturday due to mild knee tendinitis, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.

It doesn't appear as though there should be any concern for Matthews moving forward, as coach Dan Hurley stated that this was more a maintenance decision than anything else. Matthews has been resting the knee during some team practices, but should be fully healthy entering the Rams' season opener against UNC-Asheville on Nov. 10.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Matthews will return to Rhode Island for his final year of eligibility, Jon Rothstein of FanRag Sports reports.

This is huge news for the Rams as they'll be getting one of their leaders back as they look to make another run to the NCAA Tournament. Matthews averaged 14.9 points and 4.3 rebounds per game this year after missing the majority of the 2015-16 season due to a knee injury. Although Hassan Martin and Kuran Iverson will be gone, the trio of Matthews, Jared Terrell, and Jeff Dowtin could very well remain intact.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Matthews led all scorers with 19 points (5-9 FG, 4-4 3Pt, 5-5 FT), adding three rebounds and an assist in Saturday's 84-60 victory over Davidson.

In his first year back from an ACL injury, Matthews has struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just 32.2 percent of his three-point attempts. His four treys Saturday were a nice change of pace, though, as it was the junior's best mark in that department in his last 10 games. With the Rams right on the bubble, they'll need another big day from Matthews in Sunday's A10 championship in order to secure their tournament bid.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Matthews scored a season-high 31 points in the loss to Houston on Saturday. He hit six 3-pointers and doled out five assists.

Matthews took on a bigger offensive role with Hassan Martin (quadriceps) out. After opening the season with four straight games with 17 points or more, Matthews has leveled off with four games of single-digit scoring. The 6-5 junior has provided 46 points in his last two games.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Matthews (knee) led the Rams with 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting in Friday's season-opening victory against Dartmouth.

Matthews needed just 23 minutes on the floor to collect a team-high scoring total, and also added three boards, three assists and three steals to his final stat line. The junior guard tore his ACL last November, but appears in line to return as Rhode Island's leading scorer. The 6-5 guard is a must-own in any format featuring Atlantic-10 players.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Matthews (knee) continues to build strength and stamina, and plans to be ready for the Nov. 11 opener against Dartmouth, the Providence Journal reports.

Reconstructive knee surgery led to an early finish to Matthews' 2015-16 campaign, but look for the guard to be back with a vengeance after logging just 10 minutes on the court a season ago. His sophomore season with the program was tremendously successful, as the 6-foot-5 wing averaged 16.9 points and 4.6 boards per contest. A career 41 percent field goal shooter, Matthews is the favorite to lead the Rams in scoring this season, and could compete for all-A10 honors.
